In there old part of Bansko there is a bank. The old part is only 20 minutes walk from the bottom of the gondola.
There are a couple of cash machines in the old part, but I can't remember if there are any by the slopes.

Ste,
Cheers for that. We are staying at the Avalon, how close by? Also, do you think it is better to exchange money in UK or in Bansko. Last year we got a better rate in Borovets than we did back home.

Hi Donna,
I stayed in the Avalon, so I know that you are quite close to the old town, and will pass a guy delling fantastic fresh crepes on the way to the bank.
Bansko does not accept pound stirling as easy as Borovets does, so I would recommend that you change money in the UK. Shops tended to offer prices in Euros, and stirling, but bars etc. only wanted lev. I wouldn't worry about the rate of exchange, because Bansko is so much cheaper than Borovets.

I would recommend that you buy lidt passes in advance if possible, because last year thye cost double if you bought them in the resort . I don't know if Bansko prices will change this year, but last year it was a ral bargain place to ski.
Avalon is a nice, clean hotel. I know that it was for sale last year, but don't know if it sold. James was the english owner and ran the hotel with his Bulgarian wife. You can also get a professional ski massage in the hotel, which is fantastic for sorting out your legs after a hard day on the slopes.

Any other questions, please ask.

Hi Ste, James is still running the Avalon- we have booked for Feb 11th next year. He told us there were some really good restaurants close to the hotel. Are there any you could reccommend as we are going B&B. Also can you give us the names of any good bars in the resort. Thanks Mal

You can change your sterling in the first investment bank in Bansko no problem.

Hi Mal,

As a general rule, I would advise to avoid the ones with people stood outside inviting you in - but some of these are decent enough. Ask James for recommendations, as he pointed us in the direction of man good mehanas.
There was one place I liked just on the edge of town. It had two giant wine barrels ouside and was a bit posher than average, but was by no means expensive. Sorry, but I can't recall the name of it, but James will know.

Cheers
