Kez, I often go to Bansko at the end of Jan, this is generally quieter than early Jan and of course is before the busy period of half term in feb. The tip with the gondola is to get there early each day, if it advertizes open 0830 get there at 8, we have been allowed up well before the opening time in the past, the snow is normally good at this time of the year as its that much colder and there has been sufficient time for a good base to build up, either from natural snow or the excellent ...

As Steve says once you are up the mountain the fast lifts generally cope well and with all the pistes and lifts open you can rack up some good runs in no time.

Don - glad to hear the snow is normally good then, and it sounds like I've timed it quite well. I've been a few years off skiing (money constraints) so desperate to get back on the slopes!

You will be pleased to hear you have escaped as we fly from East Mids apart from the Welsh contingent who fly from Bristol. But as a lot of planes arrive in Sofia at the same time anything is still always possible.
