Right - enough of this doom and gloom on here. Every year we get the same thing, and every year we get loads of 'just back' reports saying "I had a brilliant time".

Lets look at the facts. All the webcams show snow in all the resorts.

The Pamporovo cam is right at the bottom of the resort, there are brilliant runs for all abilities right at the top (the green/blue below the TV tower on the other side of the mountain for one!)

Again, the Boro cam is right at the bottom of the Rila slopes. It looks a tiny bit worn at the top of that wee rise before the trees, and from experience, the whole begineers area down there will be a bit hard packed. So what? Beginner boarders get padded shorts. That image represents 2 percent (at most) of the slopes available to ride on, ALL of which are higher up. Borovets has a whole big mountain to ride over the other side too.

Bansko looks fine!

Whoever said the temperature was going up to 15 soon ... try looking at the actual temperature readout and not the wind speed. Looks like it's dropping to minus 7 soon.

I've been in Pamps and Boro when the outlook has looked much worse than this. Boarded down reds in Pamps with grass poking out and walked streets in Borovets that could have been mistaken for rivers. I've still had some brilliant riding and a fantastic time.

OK, you can't beat a powder day, and to be fair I've had more than a few of those in Bulgaria too, but no matter what, NO MATTER WHAT, next week and the week after, and the week after that, and right through to late March, there will be skiing, boarding, drinking and laughing.

The situation is NOT desperate, its approximately the same as it is every year at this time. I've been to Bulgaria both skiing and boarding a fair few times now and I wouldn't have booked the second week in January if I thought I'd be hillwalking instead ... perish the thought!
