Bansko 19/2-26/2

Hi there
I have been looking at a ski holiday in Bansko for the above dates but have just found out the world cup is on at that time.
I have only skied previously on dry slopes so am very much a beginner and will probably only use the beginner slopes and my children (15 and 16) have skiied with the school a number of times so will probably use the beginner to inetrmediary slopes.

Do you think it will be too busy on these slopes if we go during the world cup and therefore recommend we try Borovets instead ?
If the slopes will be ok will the town itself be very busy and difficult to get into restaurents etc... of an evening ?
Thanks for any help

I thinbk this is also half term week - yes it will be really busy like most resorts during UK holidays. In the past the world cup event has resulted in mainly 1 run being closed - it's a black run called Tomba and a section of Red that links to it also seems to form part of the downhill... As beginners there will still be plenty to do without this run. Given the fact that it's UK half term it will be rammed whether there is a world cup event or not - I've never been out there when it's been ...

Just make sure you get to the gondola nice and early if you want to be up the mountain in the morning....

Eves I'm sure will be fine - there are so many places out there I can'e see availibility ever being a problem.

I will be honest (which is bound to tempt providence)...
Last half term was not that busy, yes, busy, but not like in previous years... The fact is that UK visitors are not coming in the numbers they used to, if the figures are to be believed they are not traveling at all... The World Cup will inconvenience some, but it is only on one piste, the `Tomba' and a portion of red 3/4... This will not effect beginners as the nursery area will be open adjacent to the race finish, and most ...

The World Cup will inconvenience some, but it is only on one piste, the `Tomba' and a portion of red 3/4... This will not effect beginners as the nursery area will be open adjacent to the race finish, and most importantly, the `ski road', the first run that beginners take on...
Most of February will be tied up with holidays, Greek, Serbian and Macadonian, as well as UK half term, that with the practice and preparation for the World Cup will make it a busy month, perhaps to consider March ?? but if your committed to Feb, could be worth a punt Wink

Thanks for the replies. I am stuck to them dates myself due to the half term and so expected it to be busy but wanted to make sure it would not be even worse due to the world cup.

re: Bansko 19/2-26/2

Hi

The main UK half term is actually the week before - 11th to 18th, so although some areas have a later half-term (ie: the week you are coming) the week before will actually be the main busy week...

That's great news Kas. Just wanted to make sure the world cup did not make the numbers impossible but it sounds like it will be ok. Thanks for all the advice
