Bulgaria Ski discussion board

We are thinking of going to Bansko on 19th Feb 2011 which is half-term week. We are not too bothered if a couple of runs are closed in the run up to 26/27th but don't want to find half the mountain closed or inaccessible. How much disruption will there be to other pistes? Being a relatively small ski area I am worried that the ski-ing will be very restricted - should we just go somewhere else? Have been to Kitzbuhel around downhill race days but was not affected. Shame, Bansko looks really good.

We were going to book for half term next year but have decided against it due to the race meeting. The infastructure on getting up the mountain struggles with half term add into this a race which will attract significant numbers and the closure of certain pistes, we have decided to give it a miss. We still have our flights on hold so may change our minds or look at boro again. I can understand why Bansko wants to attract these races but half term could be counter productive in terms of confidence and satisfacion levels for british tourists.

Yes it doesn't seem that clever.

Howver, they probably had to take the dates they could get for the Championship and on balance its still worth them doing given that a lot of Brits will still book anyway, in ignorance.

Personally I feel that's a bit short termist as if the half term skiers don't have a good experience then their image of Bankso will be tarnished and you can bet that they will pass on their ill feeling to every skiier they subsequently talk to.
