Hi everyone,
Am off to Bankso on the 25th Feb; this will be my first time (bit nervous about what to expect) and have only been on a dry ski slope once before! Am going with 2 guys who are already very good skiers, so wont see them for most of the day.
I've read on the board that Bansko isnt very well suited to beginners?? but I will have to take some lessons - does anyone know whether I should book a couple of days lessons before I go or book these locally? Found loads of useful ...

Hi Val,
Don't know yet to be honest, one of the other party is doing the booking (they stayed there last year, so it must be OK:-). I do know its very close to the slopes, walking distance. How many lessons do you think I should book - I'm told I'd be bored if I book them for every day I'm there. Boyfriend has suggested doing the first 2 days?
Just book a 2 hour individual lesson on the first day then practice what you have learned
Then go for another 2 hour lesson the next day and hopefully bu then you will hit the blue slopes
If the snow is good get your boyfriend to take you on the blues in the afternoon (that way he can go through the trees in powder but be close to you at all time) until your confidence builds
Then take it from there and see how you get on

If you do go with a ski school you'll be with other people but the learning curve is much slower (and you will be standing around alot)
You can book an individual 2 hour lesson for your first day for 60 leva from the independant ski schools in bansko (no need to book before you get here) then if you need the second lesson you can normally book it with the instructer
Actually works out cheaper than a weeks ski school and you should progress quicker
I have only ever had one 2 hour lesson but was then coached by my husband and son, can ski all the slopes and now working on the off piste!!!!!!!!! but that will take me some time
Hi karen, we are also going out on 25 Feb from manchester. Really can't wait now. it is our frist time to Bansko, but after all we have read I am sure it is going to be brilliant. ,might see you there.
Karen
if you book with the Ulen ski school and get Danke as your teacher, you will do fine. She was my mate Dave's teacher, and he really progressed well.
have fun

Hi Nicola,
thanks for the advice - do I book that when I get there? Is this individual tuition or groups / any ideas how much Id expect to pay? We are going through Inghams and their school package is for 6 days 4hours each day, plus ski and boot hire plus lift pass for £125. Alternatively, I've looked at the packages with ski bulgaria on this site where I can mix and match hire/lift pass etc. Guess I dont need to go to all the lessons, but a few people have said the group school ...

Although the group option appealled as I would be on my own - the others in my group are both experienced skiers so I wont see them most of the day!
