Hi all
I've been keeping an eye on this discussion board for a month or so as Im off to Bansko this Friday for my first ever trip to the snow.
So far I've gotten some great tips so thanks.
As complete beginners (as in we will be those people flailing around on the flat areas who everyone laughs at) do you think the fact that there is less snow than usual will have a big impact on us? I expect (or at least hope) that we will still get a chance to learn the basics.
I guess the upside is ...

I guess the upside is that even if the conditions are really bad, I won't know of any great conditions to compare it to.
Im sure our week will be a blast regardless but I just want to reassure the doubters in our party.
Any advice from those with more experience would be most appreciated.
Thanks
Well to learn the basics, you won't need much snow or a long piste. However if you progress quickly you may become tired of pootling down a 100 mt stretch. I have skiing in the blood, coming from Austria, so started at avery early age and found that even the anticipation of being in the mountains and witnessing truly the most spectacular scenery known to man kind, is sometimes all you need.
Thanks, I agree with your sentiments about the anticipation and scenery etc, Im sure that will make the holiday. It will be nice to be able to have a proper snow holiday though.
Im from Australia so Im not at all used to snow and I am very excited about trying something totally new to me.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for a big dump of snow on the off chance I progress quickly.. And for everyone else who can already ski/board of course.
We fly out to Sofia (from London) on the 29th and go to Bansko on the 30th.
Cheers Fiona, I live with Kiwis so we have a deal to support the other when they play sport. Complications always arise when we play one another though.
Rudolfsun, I can be gracious in victory. I was here (London) last year when we lost so you can imagine the ribbing I got from anyone who picked my accent. With regards to the urn residing at Lords then if the Poms want to display a trophy they so convincingly lost ...

The Ashes 2009 should be good. It will give your batsmen some time in the nets...
I am joking by the way, I hope no one abuses me.
You carry on clare, us whinging poms will revel in your next defeat ahahaha. The thing is we travel however may miles to aus and have a wicked time if we win or loose, you have to come to miserable blighty !!
I fly out iont the 6th of jan so hoprfully it will snow then. Last year we couldn't ski for two days beacuse there was too much snow!!! but that was late feb
Ha, good point about the travel, it is a long way to go so I hope they get something in other than cricket. It looked like they had some great weather up until Boxing Day.
'Miserable Blighty' has its good points, just look at all us Aussies who choose to do a stint here.
Im guessing we won't have the probelm of too much snow next week. I don't want to be greedybut a bit more would be good. I'll be in a world of trouble if my anticipated 6 million falls off the snowboard aren't a bit ...
