I'm going snowboarding to Bansko in a few weeks time and will be hiring a car. Would it be better to drive up the mountain and park or take the gondola. How close is the car park to the slopes ? Are there any runs accessible before the lifts officially open in the morning ? Does the car park open or close at set times ? Thanks
Hi David, I have been hiring a car for the annual Bansko trip for the last 6/7 years. Unless you hit the gondola station at the right time say 8/8.30 am or midday depending on the night before, you can queue for 15 - 60 minutes. Generally we drive up, have a look from the car park and if busy drive straight up to the upper car park. Costs is the same and provided the roads is in reasonable condition it is not a bad drive, 15 - 20 mins. It is quite nice to have the car up there as there is ...

Bearing in mind you are boarding it would be a very boring and slow final last third. If you can drive up at 8.30/8.45 there is often a space in a lay-by just past the bridge (you will see it) that is next to a lift. Free parking and short walk to the lift !
Driving up is normally no issue, though the road may be covered in snow nearer the top... parking around the base of red 12 should be ok, apart from weekends when you will need to get there early. Parking beyond the barrier to Shilligarnika will cost you 12lv for the day, and allows parking at Shilli, the car park at the edge of blue 1, and the top of the gondola. You can also buy passes at the top station of the gondola... To be honest the resort is very quiet, and queuing at the gondola is ...

Steve is right, it is quite here now, I would not bother driving up unless you are miles from the gondola, and even then I would only drive to the ski road to park free and ski down to the gondola.the ski road is a nice finish to the day
