Hi, I was in Pamporovo for New Year 06/07, 16 of us had a fantastic time even though the snow wasn't great & the day there was plenty it seemed the whole of Bulgaria had descended on the slopes. Anyway a group of us are thinking of going for New Year again, where should we go because nightlife for us is as important as the skiing. We are considering Slovenia or Serbia too, if anyone has any experience of skiing there your thoughts would be appreciated.
if you like nightlife I would say pamps, there is a lot in bansko but more spread out and tends to be a lot more on the quieter side although I am sure others will tell tou more on this, slopes though are a lot better in bansko.
its hard to say, once you have the pamps bug its hard to shake it off, I went to Bansko twice last season and whilst I enjoyed it, the runs are better, the town is much more traditional bulgarian, Pamps seems to always tug at me to go back, going back to Pamps in two weeks just got back from Borovets at Christmas and I think I prefer Borovets to Bansko the runs there are even better than Bansko and the people very friendly... maybe its more to do with the company than the place? I really don't know had a great time in all the resorts but absolutely looking forward to pamps and seeing lots of friends there
Spent New Year 06/07 in Pamps, not terribly impressed really. the lack of snow didn't help.
Just back from New Year 07/08 in Borovets - fantastic! really nice place, good snow and great skiing on a wide variety of runs. Fireworks outside the Rila were amazing.
I would go back to Boro in a heartbeat, I'd have to be heavily persuaded to try Pamps again; the bug just didn't bite me. Bansko doesn't appeal for some reason.

I'd quite like to try Serbia but there is a 5 1/2 hour transfer time from Belgrade which is a bit off-putting. I met a nice Serbian girl this week in Boro - she was in my ski group - and she said Kopaonik has good skiing but is expensive when you are there, more so than Borovets.
Actually it's Sarajevo I'm interested in going to but it would have to be a DIY trip as no tour operators are going there yet. Zakopane in Poland is an easy transfer from Krakow and you can get very cheap flights to Krakow so that could be another option to consider.
I went pamps two years ago and enjoyed the colture and and been on the snow.
but i thought the slopes where limited 2-3 long runs.
the nightlife was little limted to hotel perilik.
i went borovets the folowing year and loved it, it had lot more to do on the slopes and the nightlife.
this year I'm off the bansko and looking forward to it there's been fresh snow near everyday since 1st jan
Thanks for your info, I think the fact we were a group 16 Scots made the nightlife even better. Have great memories of the whole week. Some in our group are still at beginner level so I would proabably sacrafice the better skiing in Bansko for the beer & laugh in Pamps, Or will we choose Borovets. I suppose it's what you make of it though & the 16 of us in Pamps could have had a brilliant time in an empty room if there was
