Bansko Report

Just back from Bansko, went for a week commencing on the 18th Feb 2007. We were a party of three, all could ski and two of us had been to Andora last year. We arranged all the holiday ourselves and stayed at Mountain Residence 3.

Our journey to the resort was good, the taxi only took 2hrs 15mins each way. Our initial main problem was that we thought we could pay for the hotel with our card, only to be told they take cash. After we solved this issue we found getting ski's, passes etc. ...

After we solved this issue we found getting ski's, passes etc. relatively easy. Although one shop did try and give us over sized ski's as they didn't have any others left.

For Bansko itself, there is a lot, and I meen a lot of building work going on. However once in to the old town this is not noticable and this area is quite pretty. The new buildings going up appear to be done in a tasteful manner as long as what you see going up is as much as it is going to be.

We generally went up to the slopes around 10:30am each day and was never waiting for longer than 15 mins, quite often we were straight on. The only exception was the last day when the gondola had broken down and there was about a 20min wait while they fixed it.

The slopes themselves were quite busy with the manners on them being very similar to our last holiday. If you go skiing it appears that you have to put up with ignorant users and people who don't know how to que obviously users of this site aside!!. The runs were good and quite challenging for us. The classification of blue 5 especially seems to be a little misleading and should only be tried if you are confident on blues. Other than this we really enjoyed the skiing although the snow could have been better (no use moaning). I did my first black run ahhhhh.

We ate out every night in the old town and found some really nice restaurants. I can not understand people who don't venture outside their hotel moaning about the food. The food and drink very cheap and enjoyable.

All in all it will take a couple of years to sort out the building work as this does make the town look a mess and they will have to sort out the ques for the gondola at peak times as the rummours I heard of queing up to 1hr 40mins is unaceptable and will put people off. For our level of skiing and having learnt prior to going it was a great holiday and excellent value for money.

Hope anybody thinking of going finds this usefull and enjoy your hols, wish I was still there Very Happy Very Happy
