Bansko Skiing Help

Hi all,

Just after any opinion/thoughts/advice.
I am looking at booking a week skiing March 2011 in Bansko for me and 14 others. I have been skiing for donkeys now have and have never been to Bulgaria before, but price is king as most of the guys can't afford the ridiculous prices elsewhere so any help is gratefully appreciated.

I like the look of bansko over borovets as the skiing looks better, is that about right?

I am a bit concerned at some of these reports of ridiculous queues for the gondola, are they really that bad, will it be same in march and is there anyway to avoid?
Has anyone got any thoughts on apartments Belvedere?
No disrespect but it sounds like some of the half board food is not the best so are we best self catering and eating out?
Snow reports I can find show that March is a good time, is that right?
How welcome are large groups of lads?

Sorry for the long list just responsible for making sure 15 peeps have a good time and want to get it right!

you should be fine for the skiing in march. generally really good conditions are had in march. queues for the gondola were horrific xmas due to all the other bulgarian resorts not having any snow. check to make sure the week you go doesnt cross with any school hols both in the uk and greece etc and you will not queue at all. way to remedy the queue is to do what i did during half term a few weeks ago and get up to the gondola for 8am. hard work but worth it to ride unused slopes. as ...

If the apartments are in Belvedere Holiday Club, you will be very pleased with it's standard and all facilities on site. It is within walking distance of gondola and town, although they have a shuttlebus as well. There are two Belvedere's in Bansko, so check websites beforehand before you decide.

re: Bansko Skiing Help

Bansko is a good choice, but going in March could be mean dodgy snow conditions, although last year in March snow was a plenty.

The Lucky Bansko appts are too far away from everything, the Belvedere is a much better location for everything.

There shouldnt be any problems with a large group of lads, the lap dance clubs will be delighted to see you all!!!

re: Bansko Skiing Help

Thanks for all your replies guys, feel much more confident now. I guess I will just have to keep an eye on this March snow conditions as one of the group wants to go the end of March 2011 whereas I would prefer earlier in the month!
Also double checked and it is the Belvedere Holiday Club!
The lads were excited about £1 pints never mind lap dancing clubs, I guess they are not as cheap!!!

Thanks again

re: Bansko Skiing Help

What lap dancing clubs ??? there are two private member clubs where young ladies are said to remove their clothing (i've heard) but no lap dancing Question Belvedere is very good, but so is Lucky Bansko, very good facilities... but as said it is at the bottom of town...
March conditions have been good for the seasons i have been coming, and im predicting this one to be similar, we are due a decent dump of snow (1m plus) as we have not had one this season yet....

After Rich's comment earlier to avoid neighbouring countries school holiday dates and subsequent q's! Does anyone know any websites where i can check countries school holiday dates? I have searched but am struggling to find a decent one. We are planning to go around 20th March next year.

Thanks for any help
