Bulgaria Ski discussion board

Hey all,
I have just hooked myself up with the internet in Bansko this year so my Correspondence will be alot more regular this year. We've had a lovely summer here with some beautiful weather but now there is a real atmosphere that the skiing season is approaching. The air is getting colder by the day and workmen are moving in an almost constant flow up the mountain to construct and repair. I was watching the local news for the region last night and the forecasters are predicting lots of snow and cold for the winter and at the gondola station you can pick up leaflets from the tour operators (in bulgarian) advertising what they expect to be a great year for snow. Bansko itself is looking a lot neater after alot of building work and is beginning to look much more like a ski resort yet the old town is still going strong giving bansko a bit of character. Can't wait to see you all out on the slopes, i know i'll be there after work most days, and i hope it's a cracking year for lots of small businesses that have popped up over the summer.

Bansko Boy

There is one bus from Bansko that runs every morning to borovets. The journey was around three hours when i went in my car but that was all of 5 years ago so please correct me if i'm wrong. There are two main mountain regions for skiing the Rila and Pirin, Pirin holding Bansko and Rila holding Borovets. Rila is the most majestic range of mountains in Bulgaria and is the location of the highest peak on the Balkan Peninsula. The Pirin range is home to the country's second highest peak and is thoughtby many to be one of the most beautiful mountain range in eastern Europe
