Does anyone know if the snowpack has stabalised in Bansko, lowering the avalanche risk ?Going out Saturday and would rather not spend too much time on pisted runs.
Also are transceivers cheaper to buy over there ?

Have not heard anything myself about an avalanche risk in Bansko and I'm here now, to me still a learner, there seemed to be too many rocks etc sticking though for much off piste skiing, and from the cable cars I have only seen a couple of people who have gone off piste, but I am no expert so maybe there were off piste areas that I could not see.
There was an avalanche in Borovets last week where someone was killed, so I'm sure word would have got round if they were ...

There were three avalanches around the same time in Bansko I believe and a woman ended up in hospital with leg fractures. Ash from Method said he's going to try to drop me an update before I head out. No warning system in town apparently though. Banskoski.com lists off-piste areas as 'red' which I guess equates to 4/5 on the Western Europena scale, not sure how up to date that is though.re: Bansko Snowpack
Board4Life, if you get an update before Saturday at about 10.30 a.m, if you get the chance, can you post something on here.It would be much appreciated.
I know they had a layer of grapel, or whatever its called, but not sure if there has been sufficient thawing and refreezing to get rid
