Bansko Tomba

Going to bansko in Jan, I am a 3rd season early intermediate, have done plenty of reds and a couple of blacks elswhere, is the tomba difficult?, i can carry our pretty good parralels and think I have good control. It looks steep from the top but that can be deceptive. Question Question

Its long and steep and in the mornings at that time of year usually icy. You'll probably get down it. Terrified, sweating, legs of jelly and possibly crying. All good fun. And if you do fall, you'll end up at the top of the gondola for easy and rapid extraction of your broken body.

It is not that steep. You will be fine. Just take your time. Control your speed and you will have no problem. The steepest run in the resort is the black at Chalin Valog but even that is wide and short. Given them ago.

The key to skiing steeps is to NEVER sit in the back seat/on your tails. ALWAYS keep your weight over the front of your ski's. You will know if you have your weight in the forward position because you will feel pressure on your shins from your ski boots. Skiing steeps is a great way of testing your ankle flex!

Other than that, skiing steeps is a piece of cake and HUGE fun! Razz

The gradient of Tomba does come up for discussion now and again.. As little as 30 degrees and as much as 40 degrees ????...
Put it this way, it varies, but all is of a level to deem it black...
Love Mats description, and it can be the case when its icey, you lose it and you will be picking up the pieces... Best way as a `Tomba' novice is to take long traverses and very controlled turns... If your speed gets away from you, you will have little chance to recover if its icey... if its good ...
