Just returned from a fabulous holiday in Bansko. It exceeded all of my expectations and I will definately be returning.
We stayed at the newly opened Hotel Lion which is a beautifully furnished hotel with everything we needed, pool, sauna, plunge pool etc. The rooms were massive and the bar was very trendy. The only minor issue whilst we were there was the fact that breakfast only started from 8am and there was little difference in the desserts each night!

Bansko itself was great - a bit quirky. Cheap beer, good cheap food, nice people and the slopes were great - some really great Blue runs which. We as boarders had great fun in the off-piste powder and the trails in the trees! The cable cars were good and also the Gondola. We had some dissapointment on the first day as the Gondola was shut due to high winds so we never made it to the slopes, but I suppose safety comes first (although I didn't think this at the time!) I would keep away on public bank holidays - the Gondola was manic. The sunday we were there was a public holiday we queued for about 1hr 30 mins to get on the Gondola all other days we got straight on ( we were there for about 8.30-8.45am) The ride took about 20mins and was great for breakfast digestion time!
Well I would reccomend Bansko to anyone, but lets not hey, I'd rather keep it low-profile and keep the slopes all to myself - who wants commercialisation!
Lions pub - dont understand what others were raving about
Queuing definately an English trait - do not be afraid of some gentle force else your be left standing!
Steak House on main street very good atmoshere - Elvis impersonator was funny but v.good.
My boyfriend reccomends the Stolinchsko beer!
Donut stand nr Gondola lift - AMAZING about 15 donuts, belgium choc for 3lev!!!
Paul, I was in the Perun (right next door to the Lion). Both hotels have a frequent courtesy but to the gondola but if you want to walk i'd guess it's about 500 metres on the flat (baring a few major pot holes).
The only problem we had with the location was on an evening as you have to walk to the gondola, then down the hill about another 400 metres to the town. Not a bad walk on a mild evening but very cold otherwise. We got taxi's on an evening - about 4 lev each way (apart from the ...

Congrats on booking Bansko but I agree with sam and Kez - don't tell anyone how good it is!
