Bansko conditions

Hi all, quick report from Bansko. Looks like it will be amazing ski over the next few days with new snow and snow machines that have been on for the last 48 hours solid. I imagine ski road should be open today or tomorrow, shame we are leaving. Top of mountain is superb.

Resort is very very busy so get to gondola for 8.15 if you want to beat the Queue. Prices on mountain for coffee etc even higher this year so be prepared.

Harry's bar has reopened in a new location but not that far ...

Harry's bar has reopened in a new location but not that far from original. Great bar again but no food. It is opposite the Astera hotel. The curry night at the Avalon was superb as usual and good meals also at log house and barakova.

Enjoy it if your coming out for New year!

Ooooh, Curry night sounds good! We usually eat out at the Log House as it's such amazing value, but I could be convinced to wander further afield for a curry. Which one's arei the Avalon and Barakova?

Ski road due to open tomorrow, very cold at the moment, temps in the day not rising above -7, and going down to -15 at night. Snow cannons working flat out, Challin Valog still needs work but if weather continues should open partially. Reported skiing on top is very good, queues in the morning disappear once to the top of the gondola... it's New Year, queue lengths are a lot less than last season, the Ruskies not coming it seems (20lv-1000rbl.. last year 50lv :-O ) so the New Year should be ...

Basically overall it is better than last Christmas/New Year.. Forecasts show some snow, varying depths, but anything is nice, much better into January as historically we get big snow then, showing 3rd, 4th Jan and on.... Ah well, i'll think of you when i'm driving to Sofia Mad

re:Bansko conditions

Sorry Craig, it's hard to explain where the Avalon is other than its in the old town. Curry night is usually Thursday but sometimes Friday as well. Email James through their website and I'm sure he will send you directions and book you in (it's always busy). Barakova next to church in centre. Same vale as log house and the pork knuckle is he best we have anywhere.

Steve, yes queues better than last year but town seems very very busy with non skiers.

re:Bansko conditions

No worries Gary, we're getting pretty good at finding our way around the town as this'll be our 5th visit. Anywhere that does a good Pork knucle will have to be sought out as my mate (Big Craig), sees them as a personal challenge. Razz Thanks very much for the info.

Not quite as big Craig. Wink

re:Bansko conditions

barakova is actually down side street close to church (look for Neon lights as get to large tree and Statue as get onto cobbles at bottom of Pirin Street) to leftof restaurant with Chef figure outside (avoid).

Avalon is is El Tepe Street (see http://avalonhotelbansko.com/contact-us/), Turn right down Pirin street (about halfway down) just before Ethno restauraunt (Mehana Bunare)on left and craft shop on RH corner, follow road around to left (Ul Georgi Kovachev) past restauraunt on left, ...

re:Bansko conditions

For the record, I don't find the pork knuckle challenging and am outraged that such an accusation had been made.
