Hi Dan..
Generally end of March into April will be spring conditions, hardpack in the morning softening up as the day goes on, and slushy in the afternoon... Coverage is not usually an issue (especially last season), no problems up high.. Freestyle ? if you mean park ? there are a couple of kickers and tables along the edge of the top piste, but this could change if a comp has been organised, mostly the ironing board brigade throw themselves out of the trees on self built kickers, much to the amusement of us 'real skiers'... much off-piste and easily accessable though cannot guarantee to much powder (or POW if your down wiv the kids) but we have had big falls even into April... All in the hands of the gods really, but Bansko usually closes around the 2nd week of April (even if its awesome conditions) so im sure you will have enough to skid around on
Steve C I've seen some videos on YouTube of rails etc to ride in the park etc.. Have these been taken down now? :O We love off piste too so that sounds good.
We'd be leaving on the 9/10th of April, so likelihood is that it will be open still? And is it busy around this time of year?
It is not busy though dependant on when the BG easter falls it can be. But not enough to worry about. The resort usually stays open for the BG easter weekend so should be ok for this week.
They did have quite a good fun-park. This is where you will have seen the vid's from. Depends on whether they get it up and running. They do not have any World Cup events this season so maybe will attempt to get the snow-board comps and get the park up and running. You usually get the local boarders ...

Ah, I understand. So currently there isn't any park (rails etc) up atm, is there anyway to find out whether the park will be up and running this season? Its quite a highlight of our holiday this season.
Hi Dan,
I was in Bansko in April this year, 30th March to 9th April I think it was. I would say that it's ok to ski then, but not ideal. Definitely saw a big difference from the start of the trip to the end. Conditions as Steve described - hard pack (very icy) in the mornings, slushy in the afternoon. Off piste definitely not adviseable on anywhere with avalanche risk, but could still play around through the trees a bit. Pretty much all the resort was still skiable, apart from the ski road ...

Pretty much all the resort was still skiable, apart from the ski road back into town. If this is your one ski holiday of the year, and you have the option then I'd try to go a bit earlier.
As for the park - there's been a park of sorts there every year for the past 5 years that I've been going. they have a few rails, boxes and a couple of big kickers (which may or may not be open), but this is NOT the same as a park you might get in one of the big alps resorts. It isn't maintained in anything like the same way. Best way I can describe it - imagine you and a couple of mates were given a few rails and boxes to put somewhere, and a couple of shovels. This is what you'd come up with after a few hours.
Matt
We have been twice that time of year - right up to the last day of the lifts operating.
The first time it had been a rubbish season everywhere but it dumped and dumped hard on the first day. The instructors were all saying this is the best snow we have seen all season and the slopes are empty.... your very lucky enjoy it. WE DID superb.
The second time it snowed lightly now and then at night (tell tale signs on the tree line). The temps were low 20degree... as in HOT. Thing is we had a ...

The second time it snowed lightly now and then at night (tell tale signs on the tree line). The temps were low 20degree... as in HOT. Thing is we had a lovely time - again slopes quiet they got a bit "heavy" in the more used sections during the mid afternoon not a problem at all. I'd imagine that could be an issue if it were busy as it would cut up badly.
When it is that hot though you do NOT need warm clothes as you will be sweating so much. I skied with an open jacket and T Shirt.
As for off piste - no idea we're more than happy to stay on the piste & at that time of the year you may well be the first to run down a piste (a lovely feeling I can tell you).
Enjoy it.
Try the Seche, Meat sword, liver/kidneys/gizzards hearts fried up mmmmm lovely. Go to the right places you'll struggle to spend more than £10 per person and be in need of a bed to let the food settle in your now huge belly... Dont forget the beers - they are cheap really cheap (however buy imported beers and they are double triple the local beers so buy accordingly - local drink is very nice).
