Bansko is Pants

Hi all just got back from Bansko and I have to say it is pants!!.

The place is covered in a thick dust from the building works. Everywhere is either a part finished building or looks like building will start. I haven't been to Bansko before all this building but I bet it was nice looking. I was gonig to buy there but def not now.

The skiing was cr&p what there was of it because there was too many people on the piste. There was not enough fences up. When you came off one of the lifts you had a fifteen foot drop of the edge if you messed up.
The people were either very nice or damned rude!.
The gondala took about 20mins to get the base of skiing (which is OK) However the queue to get back at the end of the day was massive. The people were always barging in and knocking over my daughters. Twice I almost got in a fight over this. The ski school would not take my daughter of severn as she looked too young. She has been skiing for 2 years!!.
Lastly was peed in the first place as our flight was 8.5hrs late to get out there. Thus we lost 1 days skiing.

The LION pub is FANTASTIC though staff are bril. Would maybe go back in 5 years to see if they have got their house in order.

The place WILL BE spoilt with all this building.

I went there two years back and wasn't too impressed with the building work but it's no diffrent from any city in the UK at the moment so we need to be patient. i'm going back on the 20th after trying out the Canadian resorts earlir in the year - they cost a lot more the transfer from the airport took 5 hrs - the lift passes are twice the price as was everything else compared to Bansko. the food wasn't world class and Banff is now considere the Blackpool of the Rockies - honest !!

The hotels in Bansko are very good, the gondala trip is world class and great fun! - certainly nothing to complain about as people pay good money for trips like this around the world. Regards the skiing the facilites are pretty good but you've just come back from the one of the busiest periods in their calendar so your going to experience delays & a bit of pushing. I left the slopes early to avoid the rush - may have missed 30 minutes of skiing but i didn't want to risk the kids safety in a crowed place like a gondola station (I would expect to do the same in crowded train station here in the UK - we've just as rude and impatient people in the UK so it's most likley the brits that were causing the problems).

re: Bansko is Pants

I am afraid I haev to agree that Bansko is pants even though it has just snowed. Don't come here if you don't like queueing morning and night. The only day we didn't queue was 1st Jan when everyone else stayed in late and missed the early part of the day. The staff in the hotels are either really good or totally ignorant though the actual hotel is very well equiped. The ski instructors seem to be unionised - we stop for lunch at 12 regardless and stick rigidly to the time table even if that ...

Queing conditions coming down may now ease off as the ski road back to the resort is now open. And it not just the british being rude in the queues - we have just had to learn that it is a case of everyone for him/her self and damn the rest.
Yes the gondola ride is good but is just a pleasant sit down after the hours queue at moment.
Lots of half finished buildings but not a lot of work going on. Would not like to come back when it is all finished as don't think the slopes will take the volume of people this would create.
Certainly won't come back again - may be bargain prices but you certainly get what you pay for.

re: Bansko is Pants

no snow in town but conditions reasonable on slopes. staying at Perun - fab facilities but some of staff are a bit disinterested may be the best way to describe them. Have heard from native Bulgarians visiting the resort that a lot of staff are Armenian or Romanian and that is why they are not like we people we met in Borovets last year. We were certainly disappointed - need to get out of the hotels to meet the locals.

A bit concerened about your child's ski school experience. My 8 year old looks more like 6 but has skiied for two years. He is booked in to ski school in 3 weeks time. Do they not look at the passport. What happened in the end with yours?
