i have found a few good Mehanas in the old town .Baryakova is nice, just off of the square. second alley on the right after the church, but my favourite is gesoka, that is down the first alley on your right, by the side of the church. You pass a few Mehanas first and it is just past a road and has a coca cola sign outside.
Its only small but the food is good.It is run by a couple Nikoli and Sissi, they are very friendly, he spaks english. It is 1.50 leva a beer there, the prices are very ...

Also the bunderitsa pub under the bunderitsa hotel has very nice food. Not all mehanas have good food. Some they just serve a pice pf meat in the plate with nothing else.
When they say 'near the gondola' they often mean 'near the gondola path' and not actually anywhere near the base station. For a good series of reviews on bansko restaurants go to the talkbansko forum.
Mountain residence over looks the gondola. Daniel is right there are plenty in the old twon by the square. If you are down there there is a very good one that has a large water feature outside. I cant recall its name but it has a massive Jameson Whisky sign on its front. The food in there is very very good. The kitchen is open plan and the food presentation is to a high standard. It does cost a bit more but we use the place as a splash out night.

Up by gondola end there are a good couple of places. Walking towards town from the gondola you will pass on your right a car park. Directly opposite the entrance is a small cafe restaurant. It is next door to a souvenier shop called Art. The place doesnt look much but it does very good basic food and cheap beer. There is a skidvd sticker on the window by the door. Beer in there is 1.5lev as opposed to 5 lev in the Happy End which is no more that 100yards away. Chicken soup 2 lev.
Further down the road is a junction with the Lion bar on it. If you look at the Lion bar and go left of it you are coming to one of my favourite restaurants. Again cant be sure of the name but it is opposite the casino and bank on that road. You go down some steps into a very traditional looking building. Inside you will see a very large half beer barrel full of beer bottles. Really good food but at a very good price. Beer 1.5lev again and as I say very good food.
If you really fancy exploring a bit if you carried on past that restauarnt you will see a wooden bridge crossing the river. Across the bridge you will see a hotel called The Northern Star. Behind that is another hotel called the Alex. They have a restaurant down there that is one of the best and also the cheapest we have been in. Beer was at 1.3lev and the food has always been very good, always big portions and always full of Bulgarians, found it very much by mistake but a real find, again doesnt look much but well worth it, especially if economising.
we're over there Sunday and as it's our first time were wondering where to look for the best prices. Beer at 1.5lv is amazing, Pamps last year was 5lv most places we went.
