I skied Bansko today. Actually my first skiing day this season.
Have to say that the conditions were better than I expected, but still more snow is needed. The snow-guns are working non-stop and the results are very good. 3 pistes were open today - the lower part of Tomba, half of Bansko piste and the old piste (drag lifts). The ski-way between Shiligarnika and Bunderitsa was open too.
These pistes were groomed to the highest standards and skiing was a pleasure. The organisation in the resort seems to be excellent. No doubt that until New Year's Eve most of the slopes in Bansko will be working.
The heavy construction works in Bansko have been stopped by the mayor of the town in order not to disturb the holiday makers. The first big groups of British and Greek skiers have invaded the resort. This year the Apres ski in Bansko has improved significantly: The Brits are going to the new Sky Sports bar just opposite the Strazhite hotel. Worth mentioning is also the new Buddha Bar in the centre of the town (not much in common with the real Buddha Bars, but not bad). The night club "Amnesia" will be the only proper disco this winter, although there are talkings that a brand new disco will be opening just opposite the Gondola.
I must say that Bansko is currently offering the best value for money and the most affordable prices. Plus the best skiing infrastructure. Also the best snow record in Bulgaria during the last 10 years. There are few brand new very luxury hotels, and more will be opening this winter (eg. The Arena hotel 5 stars, opposite the Gondola, part of the Kempinski chain of hotels). This resort is currently experiencing a massive investment process and constant improvement of the facilities and infrastructure.
For sure Bansko is turning into Bulgaria's # 1 ski resort and everybody can see it.

Sorry to disagree with you but I have just returned from Bansko & also skied the 3 open slopes. My party did not feel that they were well groomed, in fact on our last day (26th) we left the slpoes after our first run down because we felt they were verging on dangerous, the piste bashers appeared not to have been out and the many stones in the snow were ruining our skis as well as threatening to stop one in ones tracks. Safety on the slopes in general was a concern to us with a distinct lack of any safety netting despite the close proximity of the trees to the slopes. Too many pylons appeared to have their protective jackets missing. Come on guys these are issues that are easy to get right and could make the difference between life & death.
