Returned from Bansko on Sat 5th Feb, mixed views the hotel Pirin was fine, clean, very warm, super rooms, food ebible.Night life none only what you make it! Skiing was ok except it snowed nearly every day and the piste bashers where hardly ever seen. but the real down side was on the first day my friend and i was skiing down run number 6 meant to be a blue run and she fell, nothing fantastic just went over, but the ski patrol were an absolute disgrace, they had no idea what to do, and were trying to lift here even though she had hurt her back, it was only the saving grace was that 2 yugosalvaians snowboards came to help. neither ski patrol spoke any english and were very uncoperartive. It turns out that she had broken her back(lower two vertibrae) the reps were fantastic and so was the staff at the medical centre, they did not have any medical supplys or bed pans! I had to buy these. She was flown home on the Weds. and is now recovering in hospital.
So as to Bansko it spoilt our holiday, but I think i would return, perhaps in a couple of years when things are more organised

Hi,

Really sorry to hear about your friend and I hope she makes a full recovery. Accidents do happen but thankfully serious accidents are rare. Pleased to hear about your views on the Pirin because that's where I'm staying in 2 weeks time. Re nightlife I guess it depends what you are looking for. I am looking forward to trying all the mehanos for a more traditional experience rather than nightclubs. Well I am 51 and hubbie 52. We love the skiing and enjoy a good few drinks but can't party ...

I am looking forward to trying all the mehanos for a more traditional experience rather than nightclubs. Well I am 51 and hubbie 52. We love the skiing and enjoy a good few drinks but can't party the night away any more and still be up for skiing the next day. Not quite ready for zimmer frames yet though.!!

Cool Cool

Val
You will have wonderful time, the mehanas are great try the Golden Fox execellent for Pizzas and pasta, the worlds end near the ski slope, great snack and wine. we were not looking for nightclubs, but a lively bar, so we stayed in the hotel and made the most of it.
Take you bikini as pool and sauna/steam room are super at the end of a days skiiing.
enjoy Val

hi

hope your friend is better soon. dont mean to be insensitive but you may be able to answer a question i put on here earlier. The brochures state that medical care has to be paid for in cash. Did you have to do this or did they accept immediate payment from the insurance company? i'm just worried about the cost of medical treatment if it is needed and having to fork out the cash

re: Bansko

Bulgarian medical treatment certainly seems dated to say the least. We where in pamporovo at the start of jan this year and my sister broke her leg very badly, again treatment was basic, they did not seem to bothered about assisting us getting her home allthough once we got the Balkan rep involved he got things moving. When we got back to the uk she's had to have two plates , screws and pins fitted and her knee-cap rebuilt. To the people who are saying Accidents happen, True, but when they ...

To the people who are saying Accidents happen, True, but when they do you excpect a competent level of treatment as stated in the brochure's. Its a real shame coz Bulgaria is a fantastic hol destination but lets hope they can bring there medical assistance up to date soon Eh?
Hope your mate recovers soon and its not put her off( my sisters allready talking about next year!)
