When I went to Bansko in January I found the best solution was to go out and get thrashed on beer and cocktails, stay up till around 2-3am, then get up for 7am to miss the queues at the gondola station. That way I was able to get a full day skiing in and that cool mountain air is certainly the best cure for a hangover!
When beer is this cheap, you've got to make the most of it! But to answer you question I'd have to say I was neither; I love them both the same and do them both as much ...

To ski at your best it is advisable to be sober but in my experience it really does depend on ability. Me.....if I'm going to take on the mountain for the day I take it easy the night before.
If however I fancy a more relaxing ski (sometime in the afternoon) I get stuck into some serious 2 handed drinking.
