Haven't been on the boards for about a year, but now thinking of going to Bansko early next year. Have been to Pamporovo but want to try somewhere with a bit more Apreski. Would like a good standard hotel, what can you recommend.
I stayed in the Pirin in Feb which was very nice. Bus to take you to the slopes and about a 10 min walk into town in the evening. Facilities include pool, sauna, solarium, massage, pool table, table tennis table, internet. Food OK but very cheap in the town to eat and the local mehanas are lovely.
Other regular posters have stayed in the Perun and the Strazhite and give good reports of these hotels also.

Bansko is lovely and the ski area superb. Personally I wouldn't go too early though because the ski road down to the base may not be open and it is a lovely way to end the days skiing rather than take the gondola.
I would prefer to not to have to use the bus to the slopes, so somewhere closer would be good. We had to use the bus in Pamporovo and it scared me to death! When would you say is the best time to go?
hi best time to vist bansko is 1st 3wk in Feb, they generally get the best snow at that time. went last year during the 2nd week in january plenty of snow but only snowed towards the end of the week.
the new grand is next door to the gondola station, the pirun is a 5min walk and the Strazhite is about the same. the buses are ok as they are all new and they only drive inside the town. the only bad thing is if you use a bus it's busy at the peak times but then it's a quick walk into the old ...

You have to remember that Bansko is a real town and not a purpose built resort like Pamps. There is a brand new hotel right at the base of the gondola but this will entail a bit of a walk into town in the evening. The buses are fine in Bansko. They are mini buses run by the hotels. A very good service. It may be worth looking at the Strazhite as being sort of equal distance between town and the slopes although they do have a bus service too.

I would say go Feb/March time. If you go too early the ski road may not be open if they do not get a good cover of snow early on. Last season the snow was fantastic when it came but people going early Jan couldn't ski all the way back.
