Best resort in March

I'm going to spark a huge debate by doing this:

Which Bulgarian resort is the best place to go in March (around the 14th)? I would like to have answers from people's experiences instead of the usual rabble on holiday websites and brochures. And while I'm at it, which would be the best hotel to stay in given the restrictions of a shoestring budget (ie no more than £400 for an all-inclusive package deal)?

I'm currently thinking about booking for Pamporovo since that's one of the higher mountains, and therefore more likely to be snowing during off-season (is that even a right assumption??). Judging from the other comments on this board, there's generally some slush on the bottom of slopes, although this is offset by the non-existent queues.

Many thanks in advance.

re: Best resort in March

Was in Pamps for the same period this year and it snowed every day whish was great for the conditions of the slopes but did stop the fantastic views that are normally seen from the top. Pamps is a great resort for singles, couples and families, the best hotels are Pamporova, Mourgavets (good family rooms), Perelik and Orlavetz. Great apres ski and restaraunts in centre of resort. If you are an advanced skier you may be bored after 3/4 days as blacks are limited so would go to Bansko, but for ...

Hope you have a great time Very Happy Very Happy Booze Booze Booze

re: Best resort in March

Actually, Pamporovo has the lowest mountains. Bansko and Borovets have the highest and would therefore be a safer gamble of having snow. However, anywhere in March is almost always going to have snow.
Also, John is right, if you are anything other than beginner or lower intermediate, you may get bored very quickly in Pamporovo. I learnt to ski in Pamporovo and thought it to be a fantastic place to learn, but now ski in Bansko as the difficulty and variety is far greater.

Bansko is fantastic. It has the best snow record in Bulgaria.

Until about 5 years ago there was no ski resort in Bansko. The effect of that is that practically everything is brand new. Don't panic about price too much because your spending money goes a lllllooooonnnnnnggggg way in Bulgaria.

If you can do it within your budget I recommend the Hotel Perun - the outdoor pool is an unbelievable experience!

The old town is really nice and traditional - well worth a look.

I've also been to Borovets - good for a stag do.

Never been to Pamporovo - heard good reports but those who have been to Pamps and Bansko seem to agree that Bansko is the pick of the bunch.

I've also been to Borovets

re: Best resort in March

Sorry but you are not guaranteed Snow in mid March In Pamps. Have been 4 times around March 14th twice had loads of snow and twice not so much although enough to ski on, but saying that in 2001 you could only ski to middle station beyond was grass!!!
