The mountain passes will be closed in advance, sources from the Traffic Police warned. All roads with dangerous curves will be closed too. There are about 150 road sections which have been marked with yellow signs because of the frequent car accidents taking place along them.
Bulgaria is in a state of alert. Vice-PM Emel Etem has ordered special measures to be undertaken. "Travel by car only if it's a must," appealed Emel Etem.

re: Bloody Hell !!

Do not forget it is a third world country you are talking about - there would be no need to close roads in a modern country like France or Austria, for example.

re: Bloody Hell !!

John,

Bulgaria is not a third world country. Roads close in the UK all the time in the winter at the first sign of snow.

I take it you haven't travelled much John. Bulgaria a third world country...don't be an idiot. I suggest you widen your horizons a bit and travel around Asia & Africa a bit.....

re: Bloody Hell !!

John,

It seems you are angry about something and certainly all of us have our reasons to feel one way or another, but to call Bulgaria a third world country shows ignorance and malice, to say the least...Not good.

re: Bloody Hell !!

Last year overnight there was 3-4 ft of snow the roads were blocked, but the delay to people going onto the slopes was only about an hour for the roads to be cleared
more like we would be laid up for the day over here
3rd world????
I know which country I would rather live in

re: Bloody Hell !!

i've travelled extensively in Africa and Asia which are DEVELOPING countrues, not 3rd world (what kind of colonial language is that), and Bulgaria is in a totally differnt league. And as per Kiwi!'s message, we wouldn't have been able to make the journey weekend before last if we'd been travelling in Kent or Norfolk the way we shut roads here at the briefest incling of the white stuff. Grow up and please don't visit Bulgaria if that's your attitude to a fantastic, soon to be in Europe, ...
