Boro Report in full

Flights

We travelled from Heathrow to Sofia on BA. Heathrow is a nightmare but I think this is more to do with the airport than anything else. All I would say is get there early. We allowed 2.5 hours and only just got through in time.
BA does not have any inflight film, so if you have little ones take a DVD player.

Transfers

We booked through Motoroads. Itr cost £140 return for the 9 of us and they were brilliant.

Accomadation

We stayed in the Flora apartments and I must say I was very impressed. They were very large, clean and warm. The bar in the complex was very well priced 3Lv for a beer and 5Lv for a cocktail. They also had a pool table, swimming pool, sauna etc which was again very reasonably priced. Would definately go back here. The only problem was the walk to and from ski lifts. We stayed at Rila last year so were spolit for getting on/off slopes. This was about 300m to Gondala and 500m to 4 man chair. Neither particularly far but knackering all the same. I would certaniely choose this over Rila but accomadation is personal choice. Met Andrew, Fiona's husband and he was a real nice bloke. We skiied together on Thursday morning. (more later)

Food

As we were self catering we ate out each night. We were lucky to be pointed in direction of The White Horse on our first night (Last resturant on right, on the road between Flora and Rila) They offered us 20% off our bill. We had Bulgarian which was recommended and this was excellant. The bill came to 148Lv for the 9 of us including 3 bottles of wine and more soft drinks than you can imagine. We ate here several times. We also ate in Venice Bar (very good but more expensive) Katys Steak house (Nice but not really for children) Francos (good atmosphere) to name but a few. It was clear that every place was trying to get you in and offering free drinks/discounts. I would recommend The White Horse above all.

Drink

Very cheap still. We paid 3Lv for 500ml in most places including those on the bottom of the slopes. 5Lv on top of the mountain.

Snow

The first couple of days were like skiing in March. The snow was extremely wet and slushy due to it freezing at night and thawing during the day. It also rained below about 1900m. Wednesday changed everything as it started snowing in the early hours and did not stop until early Thursday morning. I went up the Gondala first thing Thursday and met Andrew. He took me to some amazing off piste areas and we skiied in 2 foot of fresh powder in glorious blue skis. It is what skiing is all about. It was snowing when we left and I would say that the conditions at the mo are very good. Anyone out there now will have a ball.

Ski Hire

We booked through Hunters and were a little disappointed. My wife was due to have a private lessons with the kids and it was clear they had forgotten to arrange any. A instructor was then found but only turned up once, even though he was booked for 3 days. The other half of our group were complete beginners and their instructor left on the first day at lunch time. With that said they were very happy with the instruction they got for the rest of the week and the equipment was good.

Bad points
I felt that the people trying to get you into the bars have become a little more aggressive in their nature. This always puts me off a place as I cannot simply be rude and say bugger off but would like to walk from A to B without hassle. We went last year and did not find this to be a problem. I think that they are suffering this year in turnover.

Overall

We had a great time. The prices are still unbeatable, the place still has that charm about it and we will definately go back at some time. We are off to france next year but I am sure we will still check this board as Boro is unique.

Any spelling mistakes will have to be excused as I am meant to be working on some work for tommorrow.
