Hi guys...great story! ... 2 Years ao the service at Boro's ski shack was so horirble and the guys behind the counter so rude. Then on the last day of the weeks they put out a tip box! So my buddy wrote Tip: "be friendly" on a piece of paper and put it in the box. Seriously though the Bulgarians come from an age of Communist rule where service did not exist. They should be made to realise that a big smile and hard work earns them more money than being slow and rude. Otherwise a great place.

The learning experience most of them have is the roller-coaster ride of cowboy free enterprise from the 90's with the rise of the mafia, banking collapse, loss of the middle classes ...

Add to all of this a sneaking admiration of the Russians (based upon a mistelling of 19th century history by 1970s party historians) and you will understand why it is always best to take a 'buyer beware' attitude to anything you encounter in BG (just as the locals do) and that includes geeza's trying to rent you ski equipment
