I have to stay I am not impressed that the one-man chair lift is being closed for the whole 2003/04 season.

We were at Borovets in Feb this year. As we all snowboard, the one-man chair lift provided us with some more runs that we could actually board back to a lift. Using the gondola, then boarding down from the top station meant walking back to the gondola at the end of the run which was at least 1/2 mile. The two draglifts down there were never manned or in use when we went passed, so we had no option but to walk back to the gondola.

We always tried getting up to Markoudjik runs at the very top. 50% of the time, either the gondola was stopping at mid station only (due to high winds, safety comes first of course) or the draglifts were not running.

If there are high winds again and the gondola is closed completely we have only four red runs to choose from. If the one-man chair lift were open, then there would be nine in total.

I have no experience in building ski lifts, but I feel that this is very poor planning.
There is approx. 8 months of "closed" season. At the end of last season they could have started the tree felling, I presume, which would be needed for the widen chair lifts.

Then leave the chair in operation for this season. At the end of this season, replace the chair lifts etc.

Borovets is a great place to go ski / boarding cheap and cheerful. I am still going, its all booked up and paid for. I hope we are lucky and the very top runs will be open and we have no gondola closures, but if there are I will feel disappointed that the one-man chair lift is not in operation. At the time of booking, I was unaware of the one-man chair lift closure; it should have been made public sooner IMHO.

I agree with what you say, there has been a lot of discussion on this site regarding the single chair lift and it is only by careful digging that you find the brief information regarding the chair being closed. Incidentally i have not found this information anywere else on the web or from any travel agent.

it was also interesting to note that according th this site, the bookings for the resort are up 'significantly' for this year, this obviously means that there will be more people trying to use less facilities this year.

Having said the above, i am still going and i am sure that i will have as good a time as last year, but this will depend on the availability of the Gondola and the upper slopes.

Sorry to sound stupid but is the single man chair lift the only way of getting to the top of sitnyakovo???? Or have other lifts be put in place since my last visit in 2000.

Yes, unfortunately the single chair lift will not be working this season, because it is too old and Borosport are not allowed to run it

Please could you provide me with more information on the current closure of
the single man chair lift, We came to Borovets the year before last and the
really easy long ski run from the top of Sitnyakovo was fantastic, we just
kept on going up on the single man lift and coming all the way down. Is
this the lift that isnt working this year? Are any of the slopes at the top
of sitnyakovo accessible any other way. Please help and make this clear to
me and some other people I have noticed asking the same questions on the
discussion board.
