Also, I think I have read you have forum meet ups? this would be pretty awesome to join a few like minded people and have a few jars :-D
Anyhow, I will be keeping an eye on this forum... speak soon!
Hi Ben
This place is quiet at this time of year but as Winter approaches its gets really busy- all your questions will be answered!
But welcome
When in January are you going and from where?
Cheers
Borosport equipment does need renewing mate!! Hopefully they have been reading the comments made and do something about it. Usually get a good pakcage deal with tour operators and if the euipment isn't great perhaps they may offer alternative if you ask nicely and do it straight away. dson't leave things until last minute especially where the boots are concerned as if you start to get blisters etc from boots it will ruin your ...

Good luck and if we are over from Bansko hopefully will meet up. Kas and Bobby arrange all the meets for Borovets.
There must have been another Ben so I have changed it to Benny Boy :-D ... but trust me this is the first time i've been on this site. Quite glad I found it really.

Hi BB..
Transfer from Sofia up to Boro is around an hour dependant on road conditions. You do not mention where you are staying, if you do we can give you a better idea of slope access and whats around you...
As time goes on you will pick up some good info, money exchange, where to eat and drink, whats lively, whats not...
Welcome anyway
Rila is in a great position. Right at the bottom of the Rila slopes and begginner area. I would imagine you will get your ski's from one of the hire shops either inside the Rila or just opposite next to the slope. The gondola is about 500mtrs poss' a little more down the slope in front of Rila Hotel, the main drag!!
Just opposite rila is The Titanic Bar a nice bar and a lot of the meets occur there. So not too far to stumble home once Kas n Bobby get hold of you. Heard rumours that the ...

Just opposite rila is The Titanic Bar a nice bar and a lot of the meets occur there. So not too far to stumble home once Kas n Bobby get hold of you. Heard rumours that the food in the Rila can be no to everyones choice but the bars offer good eating. If you walk to the left outside hotel and down to the bottom of the Rila black there is a restaurant on the left side called Malina. Mitko and his father run it and are very nice people, great prices and look after you.
Plenty of places to eat and drink and more of a night life about borovets(apres ski) than the other rsorts as you are based right at the bottom of the slopes in resort.
May be a few changes this year in resort but will have to wait and see what happens between now and then. Kas n Bobby will keep things updated and we will if we know of any.
Steve C and Me are based in Bansko but do love to get over to Borovets in the season to ski and have a few drinks with friends.
Hi Ben.
I'm a Borovets vet, Feb '12 will be my 10th season in a row. As has been said, the forum is a bit quiet at this time of year. Any to answer your equipment question. As you are taking the tour company package you will be getting a good deal and you will be getting the equipment from one of the depots inside the Rila. They do only do one level of equipment which is no better than adequate depending on your level. If your skiis are in poor condition when you get them you can hand therm ...

They do only do one level of equipment which is no better than adequate depending on your level. If your skiis are in poor condition when you get them you can hand therm back and ask for a better pair and you can insist that they aer waxed and edged which they can offer for free at their own place but you will have to walk down there and get them done yourself.
Anyway feel free to ask any questions
We are going up to Borovets in a minute to try and meet up with Nightmuffy and watch her in the MTB competition, but I will email you later with as much information as I can!!
Thanks everyone! Robert - Will have to read the whole of your blog as from what Iv'e read already sounds bloody brilliant :-D
Kas&Bobby, thanks for the email I will reply personally :-D
I am itching to get some snow.. think it's driving the girlfriend crazy! ... we are taking lessons over at the local dry slope this month and will continue up until our trip. Just wondering what the slopes are going to be like for a novice .. I understand there is a new green run?

I have been buying some impact protection as we are doing snowboarding ... so the girlfriend will be padded up like a michelin man :-D
From what I understand all we need is some impact pants, wrist guards and helmet... or would you suggest any more? ... obviously we have our jackets and salopettes.
Also been thinking about taking a little weekend trip to scotland when it snows so hopefully will have some beginners experience before we arrive.
