Can anyone offer any advice on going to Bansko. I get the impression it is 'the resort' to go to for the skiing.

I've been to Borovets for the last 2 years (just got back last Saturday) and me along with the other 9 in our group had a great time and will be booking up for next year.

We did think did think though when the Gondola was closed or only going to the mid station the skiing for beginners was quite limited as they only really had the 4 man to go up (which in itself was very icy), hence we may try Bansko next year.

I know more runs are planned for Borovets but I gather it's not certain when they will ready.

Some of the group I go with are intermediate and advanced skiiers so I would appreciate any comments as to how Bansko fairs for all abilities.

I went to Bansko in January and the skiing was fantastic. I am an upper-intermediate and I think it is most suitable for intermediates, although there are nice runs for beginners and advanced skiers. The ropeways are the genuine plus compared to the other Bulgarian resorts: new Doppelmayr quad-chairlifts (3 of them) and a new gondola. They are so much faster... therefore no lines. I think that the snow record of Bansko is the best in Bg, but I'm not entirely sure.

Plans to expand further are under way and judging by their past experience I think next year they will add a few new runs and lifts. The outlook is therefore very good and I am sure Bansko will become a hit in max 1-2 years and then the crowds will flood the place!

Also I think that the town itself is a nice place - has lots of traditional pubs, although some of you may find them a bit boring after a while... As for the country origin of tourists there's a bit of variety: English (in increasing numbers), lots of Macedonians, Germans, Scandinavians and Russians.
