From memory the cash machines charged me something like £2.50 per transaction last year. I think there was a bank on the ground floor of the Rila hotel. I've never known a UK bank which didn't charge comission for exchanging currency(either implicitly part of a less favourable exchange rate or otherwise). I don't expect the Bulgarian banks to be different. I could be wrong though.
Thanks for the replies but I was specificly asking about the commission rates at Bulgarian banks.
I know about the card charges but was wondering if after commission i would get a better deal out there, as their websites show a better exchange rate.
I used my Nationwide debit card in the Rila Hotel taking out money at the cash point and was not charged to use the machine, I also got a good rate 2.17 that was last Thursday.
mark .. as far as i know the only bank in boro is at front of hotel ela . just down from gondala ... they will charge comm.. you would be best to either take stirling and look for best rate in resort or use your credit card as this will get best international rate...
take sterling and look for the" change plus "places no commission there ,best rate we found was in our hotel the lion 2.11 no commission there either we came back 17th
I used the First Independent Bank in front of the Rila on Saturday morning to change up £20 to last me the final day, got a rate of 2.12 with no comission, that was the best rate that I saw
