Borovets Conditions Update - DEC 17th

Morning Guys,

Good news and bad! We came up this morning at 8am but they are only running the gondola for the lift / restaurant workers not all day as originally advised. In addition, whilst it looks like loads of snow on the webcams, trust us there's not up top as there isn't a great base so a number of slopes have not been pisted -eg: fon fon, markudjik slopes.

It is a beautiful day up here with perfect blue skies however at the moment it's more snow that is needed.

The guys have said that tomorrow Yastrebets and Rila slopes will be open as they have very good conditions due to snow and artificial snow combined. The gondola will be open but at the moment it will just be for the nursery slope on Markudjik not the other 3 but they may change by tomorrow. We are walking down the mussala path later and will let you know what it is like - at the moment it is unskiable.

I know it's not great news but it's much better than this time last year and as above Yastrebets and Rila slopes are in very good condition.

Us!

P.s we have electric now but no water...Smile

We walked down from the top down via the Mussala path.... The Markudjik slopes have not been compacted since yesterday's snow, neither has the Mussala path, so it is unlikely they will open tomorrow. Saying that, the nursery slope on the Markudjik has been compacted and is in good condition, so they may just open that run.

The Mussala path has a steam that runs across it (near the top) - usually in the winter you don't see it. We walked over it for the ice to crack and end up with ...

The Mussala path has a steam that runs across it (near the top) - usually in the winter you don't see it. We walked over it for the ice to crack and end up with our feet in water..so that definitely won't open! Nearer to the bottom of the Mussala path, there is actually more snow (due to the very low temps at the top giving smaller snow at the beginning of the week) but it still doesn't amount to loads and still lots of rocks.

The top of the gondola down to the Fon Fon / 4 man chair is very rocky, patchy and although they may open it, it will not last long with lots of skiiers.

On a positive note, the Rila slopes (where the cannons are) are in very good conditions. On an even more positive note, the Yastrebets slopes are even better than the Rila and there will be no problem getting skiing in for anyone arriving this weekend.

Will keep you posted!
