Borovets Conditions Update - January 1st

Hi Guys,

Sorry I haven't posted all week - it's been really busy and there's been nothing new to tell you since the last report.

The same runs are open and conditions are detoriating. The forecasted snow for this weekend has now gone from saying 20cm to 3 cm, which is why we don't believe the weather reports!!

The Rila runs (red and beginner runs) are very icy, especially in the afternoons. Whilst they are good for beginners, the queues have been circa 30mins to get on the lift... ...

The Rila runs (red and beginner runs) are very icy, especially in the afternoons. Whilst they are good for beginners, the queues have been circa 30mins to get on the lift.... The secondary problem is that beginners are now ready to progress to longer, slightly harder runs (after 3 / 4days of lessons) , but there is nowhere for beginners to go as they are not able to do the rila red / yastrebets, so they are still stuck on the nursery slopes.

Yastrebets runs today are skiing 'well' but very busy with the locals skiing for the weekend.

re: Borovets Conditions Update - January 1st

Hi Daniel, a 6 day lift pass here costs 286 lev which is about 130 quid. I found it cheaper to buy through our tour operator. Also, don't know how true this is, but was told its 1hr 40 mins bus ride to bansko. I've been up the top of the gondola today, and there is snow up top, I just think that they need another 10-15cm before they open as there are still lots of rocky patches. The snow cannons have been going all day for about 4 days this week (but not today), so there is now loads of snow ...

The snow cannons have been going all day for about 4 days this week (but not today), so there is now loads of snow on the two runs open from the yastrebets 4 man chair, the other run still has grass and rocks visible through the snow. I would think that you wouldn't have any problem in skiing/boarding all week, but will just be a bit boring using the same 2 runs. The blue/red that is open on the rila side is VERY icy. If you hit the ice, you slip 30-40 meters down - not nice. Hope you get some snow, all the best, Jim. P.S. Make sure you attend the forum meet up to meet Bobby and Kas, there really good fun, and you should have a good night.

One other thing, about the lift pass, it will probably be cheaper if you are able to phone inghams tonight or tomorrow morning and book it before you arrive.

re: Borovets Conditions Update - January 1st

James, you can buy the Ski pass daily and its just as cheap also it is cheaper at the weekend. You can also buy half day passes so if it really is that bad and you dont fancy it for a day you dont loose any money. You get the pass from the kiosk by the chair kift opposit the Gondla. We are out no the 11th and are also really worried. Hope it snows soon.

Cheers Boris.

re: Borovets Conditions Update - January 1st

Hi,i'm out on Friday, if it doesn't get any better, will just stay out later at night, have a lay in and then get a half day pass each day,i know its not ideal but nothing we can do about it.I'd still rather be in Boro than at work in uk.Also the Yastrebets run are nice and the cannons do a great job,so it's not total gloom,at least we will get to ski.Rigs

re: Borovets Conditions Update - January 1st

Conditions here in Bansko are not a lot better, the rush over Christmas and New Year is dying down which should improve the queuing... Snow is being laid by the cannons as low temperatures persist, but it can as Boro get very icey on well used runs, especially the ski road...
Check out Bansko Cams on Banskoski.com...
A few clouds today, but nothing that looks like holding any snow, as for the forecast, ignore it, we had snow before Christmas that was not even forecast Wink
