I'm skiing for the first time in Borovets arriving 20th January.
I'm really looking forward to it, the only thing is I'm a little worried about the food. All of the other reviews I've read on various different sites complely slate the food on offer in Borovets but after reading through the previous posts, you guys havn't really mentioned it.
Please can anybody recommend any nice places to eat?
Also I'm staying at the Lion Hotel, any reviews?
hi luce
the food is not to everyones taste, and taste being the main word, cos some of it looks ropey but give it ago and you will enjoy it...its very nice. but if you just want burger, pizzas and chips then you can get that in plenty of places on the main streets. you cetainly dont need to worry!!
The food is terrific, provided you go out to eat. As far as I can see, the people posting negative comments on other sites aren't prepared to go and explore....those that do are rarely disappointed.
Try (in no particular order) The Blue, The Happy Duck, Katy's, and The Salamander. They all serve a wide variety of western and local cuisine with a very warm welcome. When you get there you'll soon locate these places - that is if you've not been dragged into somewhwere else ...

We stayed in the Rila which forced us to eat out. It was odd, and if you have kids it takes alot of persuading to get them to even try some of the mystery food. Breakfast was great though.
Having said that, the chinese restaurant was amazing and if you go and see Vlad who runs a restaurant on the right of the nursery slope outside the Rila, his food was lovely. You can get a 10 ounce fillet steak for a fiver!!! His traditional Bulgarian food is really nice too.
The best bet is just to ...

The best bet is just to be adventurous....at the end of the day its only food, you'll either like it or not but you have to try it and it won't kill you...... unless you have one of the strange meat kabab things from the man in the grass hut at the top of the mountain....
I have stayed in the Rila twice and both years we ate out. Food in the restraunts is good and reasonably priced. Agree that the Salamander and the Happy Duck are excellent. Pizza place across from the Rila, right hand side of the nursery slope as you look up cook the pizzas outside in a stone oven. Best pizza I have ever tasted, can't remember the name of it.
Try somewhere different every night.
Hi there,
We stayed in the hotel Lion last year and the hotel was great, (probably even better now swimming pool etc has opened)
The food there was fine, a good selection so always something we liked. A good variety of traditional Bulgarian food as well as more 'popular' foods such as pasta and pizza.
