Borovets Report

Well here I am - I've finally made it to Borovets and it's as wonderful as I remember it to be.

I'm staying at the Samokov and I've got Angel as my instructor (the young one). We've been up on the new four man chair and done that really picturesque 6km blue run through the trees - but well scary when crossing over the reds... Done some traversing on the nursery slopes too.

The weather is ok, but the gondola was closed today due to high winds. If it's nice tomorrow, we'll go up to the top of the mountain. Quite a few people have arrived without ski packs and are learning to their costs how expensive it is not to prebook.

There are parts of the lower slopes where it's starting to get a little slushy, and in fact, just coming down the road you can go water skiing...The weather is lovely, the tan is starting already - could have easily skiied in a t-shirt today it was so nice.

Seen a few ski suits to rival PP's - one in lurid green. No bell sellers here - or at least I haven't seen them, and haven't seen any ladies of the night either...

Met up with my ski instructor from two years ago - we had a lovely catch up and he still remembered me - boy I must have made an impression!!! Got to book the ski instructors caberet for Wednesday night - just 15 lev for a really funny night out and also, just had the first massage of the holiday - 25 lev for a full body massage, can't go wrong there.

I'll keep you all updated with how it's all going, but at the moment, I'm so glad that I rebooked and am having the most fantastic time.

J Cool

re: Borovets Report

Just got back home from my first skiing holiday. Borovets is a great place to go. We had a great time. My partner has been skiing for years and she loved it also.
Stayed at the Ela and it was clean, comfortable and nice and warm (too warm sometimes in the room). Food was typical for the area and was not English (thank God). Bar was good and comfortable. A hotel for the more mature among us. Couples and families. I would definitely stay there again if we go back to Borovets.

The slopes were good. We had loads of snow and skied in as many places as we could. Even got to the top of the mountain (2300 meters and - 24oC on one day)
Apres ski was good (what we saw of it, we were in bed by 21:30 on most nights as we were well tired). Good and friendly people and my instructor was brilliant.
Can't wait for next year.
