re: Borovets Vs Bansko

I've just come back from Bansko (2 Feb for 1 week). Haven't been to Borovets but can tell you what I thought of Bansko.

Transfer was a bit painful and we finally checked in at 12.00pm. The hotel staff gave us all some food to take up to our rooms, which was good. The equipment hire was quite well organised and the skis/boots all new. Gondola queues are tricky on first day - just make sure you get there around 8-830 to avoid them.

We found the slopes quite busy with fast skiers and snowboarders. The scenery up there is beautiful and the skiing conditions v good. The ski school is excellent if you're thinking of lessons. Everyone really friendly.

The old town is good to visit with lots of traditional restaurants and bars. The resort itself is going through a massive amount of building work, pretty much everywhere you look. Still, it's a developing resort, so to be expected.

Hope this helps.

re: Borovets Vs Bansko

Have skied Borovets (3 years ago) and Bansko (last year) - both times during half term week.
Believe that the skiing in Bansko is more extensive and more varied, but the only way up is the gondola which gets very busy. Borovets has 2 seperate ski areas. Gives more choice about lift queues but the walk between the two is not nice. As a town Bansko seems to have more to offer than Borovets (this from the perspective of a family with young children - nights of wild partying are behind us!). ...

We will not return to Bansko until the lift system has been improved. The morning queues at the gondola are not fun when you are trying to protect 2 small children.

Been to Borovets once and Bansko twice. I prefer Bansko because the ski runs are more varied and there is a greater choice for intermediates (imo). I like the ski road back to town in Bansko as well.
Bansko is a prettier town and there are lots of original restaurants. But the walk from some hotels into town isn't very pretty.
Boro has a better nightlife whilst bankso is quieter (which suits me). Also reports suggest that Borovets is getting more expensive.

The gondola can be a problem at Bansko between 9-10 but otherwise no problem. When I was there, there were high winds so the Gondola closed, at Boro if this happened the lower slopes might still have been available.
Stayed at the Samokov in Boro which was okay but the Perun in bansko was a lot nicer and more modern.
Would cetainly go back to Boro but Bansko gets my vote.

re: Borovets Vs Bansko

to be honest with this snow, theres no comparison Razz Razzanything above intermediate its Borovets, the runs and terrain avialable is massive compared to Bansko. The runs are harder fair enough but the expanse of off piste thats easily accesible to most skiers is much much better in Boro. I accept all brickbats but at the oment its unbelievable Booze
