Borovets or Pamporovo

This is probably going to divide the discussion board, but here goes anyway!Never been to Bulgaria before, normally go to the Milky Way in Italy. But time creeps up on us all and it is now time for me to cast off the "lads skiing holiday" and get my partner up and about on a pair of skis, and I have been told Bulgaria is excellent for beginners!
Where should I go, Borovets or (as everyone seems to call it) Pamps?
All comments greatly appreciated!

been to borovets twice, great fun, great for learners, instructors are good, but i would wait to see if they have snow before booking because nightmare without snow, and limited snow makingre: Borovets or Pamporovo
I recommend Borovets for several reasons. The slopes are ideal for beginners, and with the 2 new 4 man chair lift in operation this season access to the slopes will be greatly improved.
Most of the hotels are situated at the bottom of the slopes, therefore eliminating the need for ski bus's. The town is also situated at the foot of the slopes which has a large selection of bars of restaurants. In Pamporovo everything is more spread out.

Well I have never been to pamps so i cannot coment on that but I have been to Borovets twice with mixed ability groups and we all loved it, all of us finding something to suit us there so I can highly recommend it.Pie xx

I've been to both and both times done beginners ski school. Borovets - March 2003, Pamps in Jan 2004. Am booked to go to Borovets for Feb 2005 and staying in the Iglika.
OK - so why did I enjoy Borovets over Pamps
Borovets hotels are right by the slopes (most of them are) and Pamps they are 3km away meaning you've got to get the ski bus or a taxi

Lots of short nursery slopes with button lifts at the bottom of the resort by the Rila for beginners - and also at the top of the gondola too. Only one baby tow bar lift at the bottom of the Pamps main area so everyone wants to use it at the same time.
Gondola in Borovets provides a second ski area - but be wary because if it's too windy or snowy it won't run (but it's warmer than chair lifts).
Most people in our group were doing the red runs from the top of the gondola down by the end of the week - in Pamps, we were still on greens and blues.
What's better about Pamps (for two weeks of the year anyway)

Both resorts had excellent instructors, but I prefered the one in Borovets - better looking!!!

John,Are the new 4 man lifts in Borovets definetly open, as I have read a lot of conflicting comments on this site about them?
