Borovets piste map!

As a Borovets Virgin, I would not mind some info about the piste map. Im a good intermediate and am wondering what are the best areas to go to. Bearing in mind im only there for two days skiing, saving time in finding the best pistes would be helpful.
What are the longest runs?
Which lifts are generally busy?
What areas generally hold the best snow?
What cafes/bars on the mountain would be best/cheapest?
Will it be busy between the 21st and 24th?
Any feedback would be much appreciated.

re: Borovets piste map!

got back at the end of feb and am just a beginner skier......did a ref red uns though..

the longest runs will be at the top of the gondola station, but at the end of that run will be subject to some cross country skiing for a few hundred yards..........

there are some shorter runs at the top of the 4 man chair lift outside the hotel Rila and these run all the way down to the hotel so you dont need to do any cross country skiing....

have a good un...

re: Borovets piste map!

I would recommend taking the gondola. If it is open all the way to the top, the snow is much better up there and there is a nice run back to the mid station. This area tends to be less crowded during the morning. I think that the gondola only runs to mid station on Tuesdays, because the top half is closed for maintenance, but I could be wrong.

From the top of the gondola, you can also ski some red runs served by a couple of drag lifts. These runs are shorter and less challenging, and when I was there in February, the ski school tended to heavily use this area (good snow and sunshie - who can blame them?).
If the run to mid station becomes boring or crowded, there is another area I like to ski, but it can be affected by low cloud. As you ski from the top to the mid gondola station, you should see a 4 seater chair lift on your left hand side a few hundred metres before mid station. The slopes served by this chair are decent and don't seem to get too crowded.
As for bar prices, they follow the same rule as any other ski resort - the higher up the mountain you go, the more expensive the price. I was paying 4lev for a 500ml bottle of water on the mountain, compared to 1lev in the resort bars.

It was half term when I was there and the gondola queues were ridiculous (1.5 hours wait) between 10:00 and 12:00 on Thursday and Friday. I would advise to get to the gondola at 09:00, or if there is a massive queue, ski up by the Rila for the morning and head to the gondola after lunch.

The Rila area tends to be a bit crowded and there will be lots of novice skiers sharing large parts of the runs. I saw several accidents as people lost control having ventured down a run beyond their ability. The more difficult runs by the Rila have road runs cutting through them which are quite often crowded by skiers having a rst on the way down. I make it sound like the Rila area is terrible, but I don't mean to and itm really isn't that bad. I'm just saying that the slopes from the gondola are more my preference.

re: Borovets piste map!

You also get a handy little map on the back of your lift pass - i found this ideal!

enjoy
