Borovets ski school

I am going to Borovets with a friend - my friend is a first time skier and is going to the ski school (booked on this website) and I am going to have snowboarding lessons.

Can anyone tell me what happens in the 1 hour lunchtimes? Are you expected to eat with members of your teaching group? Does your instructor take you to a particular cafe/equivalent? Also, are all teaching groups likely to be apart from each other? We'd like to know for working out whether to share a day sack (and to ...

Any information about the ski school would be greatly appreciated!

re: Borovets ski school

In your lunch break you can do what you want but most people tend to go with the instructor, and he will take you to certain places. Mind you, there is only 3 places up the Gondola so not to much to choose from! The learning groups are likely to be in the same area as you are both learners.

You probably will run into each other during the day but I always think it best to have your own backpack, just in case you want something during the times you are skiing.

Most groups seem to stay together with their instructor for lunch, although you don't have to. Your friend is likely to start on the slopes outside the Rila Hotel, depends if you are a beginner snowboarder where you are likely to be. If you are experienced you may well start off on the top so meeting up for lunch would be difficult.

The instructors in Boro are told where to take their group for lunch - not to earn commission but to get work for the next week. As it is near the end of the season, they will be under less pressure but you are free to eat where you want. It is much cheaper to take your own snacks and drinks with you but sharing a day sack of goodies maybe tricky. You could both ask your instructors where you will be skiing the next day and have walkie talkies to meet up.

There are excellent instructors and most speak excellent English but if you do get someone you are not happy with, ask in the office (just inside the Rila Hotel) to change, it's not usually a problem.

Snow is excellent at the moment on all slopes with more forecast for this weekend.

Have a good time Very Happy Very Happy

re: Borovets ski school

Our instructor got a bit arsey this year, as some of our group had family in a beginner group, and my hubby was off doing his own thing - we wanted to meet up with respective people for lunch. We tried saying we'd be back at a certain place at a certain time, he didn't like it, so a couple of afternoons, I just left them to it, met the hubby and skiied with him in the afternoon. At the end of the day, it's your holiday, don't be pushed to go somewhere you don't want to (as where the instructor chooses is not necessarily the best value or best quality) - as borogirl says, the pressure is off them now so may not be too bad. Have a great time.
