Hi Jamie,
We've just got back from borovets and stayed in the hotel edelweiss, it's right next to hotel bor and apparently they are identical inside as they are owned and run by the same company.
Anyway, the edelweiss was fine, we had a twin room which was basic but very clean, warm and comfortable. Also the shower was really powerfull.
Don't worry about the walk, it reall is only 10 minutes and it's actually quite a nice walk, if you don't fancy walking, you can get a taxi or horse and ...

Don't worry about the walk, it reall is only 10 minutes and it's actually quite a nice walk, if you don't fancy walking, you can get a taxi or horse and cart taxi from the hotel for 10 levs. my advice is to get up early, load up on the biffet brekky (it's actually really good) and get to the slopes for 9:30am, this way you'll miss the crowds. Get your gear and get to the Yastrebets gondola for the top part of the mountain, there are some great reds and a couple of blacks there with excellent snow. Ask one of the instructors about the 'extreme green' run, it's 6 km long and is actually more of a red in places 'cos it's narrow and steep, but it takes you through the forrest and along the river, it's a really scenic run.
A group of 8 of us just got back from Borovets, after a week spent in the Edelweiss Hotel, and I don't think there was a single complaint from the entire bunch. The hotel was most excellent, helpful & friendly staff, very good buffet breakfast with plenty variety. We only ate in the hotel once in the evening, and the food did tend to have a high calorific content (i.e. mostly deep fried sfuff) but if you're hungry enough, its quite adequate. Eating out is so cheap, you just have to. The ...

Eating out is so cheap, you just have to. The hotel is not that far from the gondola, about 10 mins walk. People who mention that its 'uphill' are making too big a deal out of what is really nothing more than a good stroll to wake you up in the morning, and an excuse to stretch out tired legs after a day's skiing and a few apres ski beers in the evening. The place where you rent your ski equipment from will also store it for you, so there is no need to worry about lugging it to/from the hotel.
