Some friends and I are thinking of taking assorted missuses (and 1 mistress) and around 14 kids (not all mine!) to Borovets next year, We are looking at the Hotel Rila there, and would be really grateful if someone who has been can give us an idea as to snow conditions around New Year (cos of the school holidays!!) and also whats the hotel really like compared to the brochure description.Any other ideas for Bulgaria most welcome, only 3 of us have ever skiied before!! I've not been at that time of year so cannot comment on the snow. However, you might want to think about the Samokov at it has much more for the kids to do on an evening (table tennis, 10 pin bowling, target shooting games room etc, etc, etc).
The Samokov is slightly more dated but if you can live with that (it is tidy etc) then I think you will find it better fro what you want.
Locationwise, not much in it. Samokov far better for upper slopes (gondola station) - Rila far better for ...

we stopped at rilea 7 of us 4 first time ski in 3ads 4 kids
hotel clean & tidy food s OK but if your fussy you can always check out hotel restaurant first then eat out if its not what you fancy we eat ok & also went out couple nites you can book a table at mamacitas a Mexican restaurant we did 4 the 12 of us as we made some good friends there in our group
food great ! band good to bill spot on very good nite had by all also eat at happy duck food also good & 2lad band great fun but check ...

get a safe deposit box in reception keeps your money safe
ski higher in base of hotel straight out on to slopes great for beginners as ski school out side hotel just get skis & boots sorted out as early poss As its mayhem latter on
i think it open about 8.30.our kid went in a kids group and eat on their own so you have to make sure they have their own money 4 dinner pic them up again about 3 to 3.30 depends on how old your kids are. pool side very slippy be careful they give you towls as you go in and a locker key if you ask hot jacuzzi lovely after ski in. its also got internet cafe & hair braiding 4 the girls & nails 4 ladies bar 4 blokes(go on and ladies to)
sorry we went half term 11 Feb so quite busy but had fab time we had such fun and a great laugh . booking to go back again next year any other advice we can help with just ask

The webcam (see link below & part of this web-page) shows conditions going back to Dec 2003. Take a look for snow conditions.Say at Rila 2 years ago & will return next Saturday with group of 11 (5 teenagers, 4 - 40 somethings & one 68 year old). Hotel situated adjacent to main runs and within stones throw of bars and restaurants. Rooms basic but clean and warm. Food is adequate, however eating out is excellent value.

Chris, woodys & old git.Thanks ever so much for this, really useful, especially the web cam and gives me an idea as to weather when clicking on the date
