Borovets

Just back from a week in Borovets.

Pistes on the Sitvanyovski side deteriorating and heavy with mounds of earth making life hard. The green run down icy and dangerous.

Markudjik pistes (top of gondola) OK, but typical gondola wait 1 and a half hours, Beware the double drag at the top by the blue - vicious - and unsuitable for children. Green run down closed, so only other option for me with 2 young girls, other than walking, was to pay 60 levs for ski-doo ride up to gondola station ...

Ystrabets pistes OK/good, although getting lumpy at bottom. Best bet is to get horse taxi out of town to Ystrabets express chair - no queues and much better than waiting for gondola.

Ski school sporadic - my daughter's group instructor told us to meet at end of day at top of gondola, but in fact took the whole group back to the village at lunchtime. Distraught parents at top, and children left alone in dusk at 4pm for an hour when instructor went home Sad

re: Borovets

Doc,

Thanks for the info. How much was the horse taxi to the express lift?

Matt.

re: Borovets

You can haggle with them, dont pay more than 10 levs ... (about 3 - 4 quid)

Just got back from Borovets, and the snow wasn't that bad after the big dump we had. The queues were bad on the gondola, but if you used a bit of comman sense and went and skied the other side of the mountain, via the chair lift, and went back in a couple of hours, there was no queue at the station.

All in all I was happy with my holiday. Found the place very friendly, but is certainly somewhere for a lads ...

re: Borovets

Doc - which ski school were the kids in? I'm planning to use one for mine in a couple of weeks.

re: Borovets

I find the fact that the instructor left the kids alone disturbing, going on Sat with 2 girls 8 and 10.
Did he offer any explanation the next day!

re: Borovets

Borosports ski school, booked at the kiosk at the Rila
No explanation given, although formal complaint lodged with the director of the school.
Have to say level of English not as good as I had been led to beleive, although both my girls were skiing by the end of the week

re: Borovets

Hi, we went last year. We had no problem with my little ones being left in Ski School. They all went off and they were dropped off at the bottom of the Rila Slopes every day and our Instructor stayed until the last parent arrived! We are going again in Feb. Our boys were 7 & 8 then. Regards. Yvette

Worried Andy,
it is a nice place for a family holiday, not everyone has to go in or near the playboy bars, and normally if they see a male with a family they do not hassle them! No prizes for guessing where you spent you evenings though!lol Very Happy
