Just to let everyone know, My family, friends and i got back from Borovets on Saturday and what a great time we all had.
The hotel rooms were cleaned every day and as ski resorts go they were comfortable. We found the hotel food to be much better then advise before we went. Its a matter of being willing to try another cultures' cuisine.
The only real problems we had with the hotel could be avoided, they were, the lady at the exchange desk like to try to miss count the amount of levy she was handed back, this happened twice, the other is always get the wine list in the rila restaurant the will try to over charge.
Two major musts, The Golden Horn Bar/ Restaurant and the Crown Bar. Thses are both next door to each other on the left hand side or the slope outside the Rila hotel. Becareful of the poles of the drag lift when going to the crown. The food in the Goldern Horn is to die for and try the local White wine.
All our kids enjoyed the food and mostly had Bulgarian cuisine and not typical junk food.
The ski instruction was first rate and specially if you are lucky to have a guy called Russ. He managed to give the whole group confidence to try slopes they would not have skiied otherwise.
I can see why people want to return to Bulgaria, it is a warm and friendly country and the locals believe passionately about what they have and want to share their riches with you.
Go with an empty mind and you will come back with great memories and experiences.
Enjoy Borovets and try to visit the more local bars, not the normal Brit bars.
Great to hear a good time was had by all. Not much has changed since last year it would seem then.....as you say, have an open mind and don't expect much and you'll be pleasently surprised. Question I do have though, and it is a bit repetative, but how are the snow conditions??
Glad you enjoyed your stay! We're going back for the third year in February and are really looking forward to it. I'll pass your advice about going with an empty mind on to my wife. It should suit her down to the ground
I have to say I have noticed a lot more negative comment on the site compared to the last two years but I put that down to pussies coming to Bulgaria from previous holidays in France and Austria and being disappointed about scratching thier skis!!
Good to see nothing has changed. Bad news about the one man chair lift but we are going to try to open the route from the top of the 4 man to the top of the one man. Pioneers we are!!!
Top of the four man chair lift needs more snow to make it really good, but it made a little testing in places, especially the middle run down. Not fun if its your own skis though. Up top of the gondola was fine. Coming down the black and red runs to the bottom of the gondola was a little hair raising especially near the base.
i can see why people go back and believe it or not i went their as my honeymoon. All of us who went enjoyed the experience so much, i hope the expansion of the ski area doesn't cause Borovets to pay a massive penalty, i.e losing its traditional identity. It needs more areas to stop the conjestion at the drag lifts for beginers, but it doesn't want to loose being Bulgarian.
From my family and myself have good time
