I am going out to borovets on 2nd jan for a week. I am looking to buy a new pair of skis, salomon 1080 foil, but as i have never been before does anyone know of a really reliable ski shop to purchase from. I have also heard that buying is alot cheaper than in uk, if so how much will i be expecting to pay??cheers.

Theres a three good shops near the main gondola. Dont know on pricing, approx 20% - 30% cheaper then uk.re: Borovets
Hi pcr.Excellent ski shops in Boro, excellent service as well. The shop next to White Majic Bar opposite Samakov Hotel. (top notch)
But check out all the shops first get your prices then hagle. Our if your female get the red ones.

The quality of rental stuff in Boro is excellent. I was gonna buy skis this year too but my mates have talked me out of it. The reason being - if your unlucky enough to scrub a rather large stone or something with your new skiis then they are pretty much b*gg*r*d!! Whereas you can just hand back the rental ones at the end of the week. If the equipment quality was poor then i would def buy a set, but in boro this is not the case.

The quality of rental kit can vary actually - what we had was generally not great last year. But shop around and you should be fine.I totally agree with Alan's views on potential stone damage though. Some of the runs got a bit bare late in the season last year and my rental skis suffered a bit. This may be less of a problem in early Jan.
Enjoy your trip, I hope the snow is excellent for you as I will be there around the same time!

We are staying in Hotel Victoria a bit out of town but seemingly quite for the kids at night and have read good reports. What about yourself???pcr
