Morning all, just something I'm interested in - what effect potentially could global warming have on Bulgaria's winter resorts?
I've had a look around the web for articles on the subject and haven't found too much, and most of what I have found has come from agents sites which isn't to helpful
I just recently watched a programe on the "national geographic" channel where geoligists have taken ice core samples around the world, and some samples were up to 2 miles deep giving them up to 4000yrs of information. They are suggesting there is a 50/50 chance of another ice age within the next 100yrs. Also they have determined that the earth orbiting the sun is not always a perfect circle and has been known to orbit on in oval path which means major changes in earth temperatures ...

Certainly opens up a multitude of questions on where we (earth) are heading for in the near future.
Not sure if you can search through the archives from all National Geographic programes or not but I think you will find this particular programe of interest to you.
Happy searching

The earth has never orbited the sun in a circle it is an elliptical shape as you say and that is well statemented throughout history. 2 miles down to get 4000 years of info? They only had to dig about 15 -20 feet in York to get 2000+
Hmmm interesting, I try to find out if Bulgaria will have skiing in 10 - 15 years time and instead I find out theres A 50/50 chance of there being another ice age within 100 years time.
Wish I'd never asked
Yea well it's got me buggered
Talking to the locals today.....they said 30yrs ago Samokov (10km down the road from Borovets) was under 2m of snow. This was normal for them.

Kids hit hard by Global Warming.
Christmas could be on the brink of being cancelled this year. That's because a steady and unabated rise in the world's temperature has melted the ice pack around the North Pole, and toy factories owned by Father Christmas have had to be abandoned, as the sites have become too dangerous to work at.
Seventy factories, operated day and night by local elves, have been shut down by the ELF & Safety Executive, and toy and game production has come to a complete standstill.
Unsuspecting children all over the world have gleefully continued to make their Christmas lists, (not always on recycled paper), unaware that their 'sacks will be empty' come the 25th December.
Mr. D. Snell, of the National Union of Elves (NUE), said:
"Global Warming is a serious threat. If we don't turn things around, there may not be too many more Christmases."
A statement this morning, though, from The Father Christmas Corporation was released telling children not to worry about a thing, as "bigger, better and more productive factories in China" were more than capable of making up the shortfall.

The ozone hole over Antarctica has shrunk 30 percent as compared to last year's record size. According to measurements made by ESA’s Envisat satellite, this year’s ozone loss peaked at 27.7 million tonnes, compared to the 2006 record ozone loss of 40 million tonnes.
