Bulgaria and the 2014 winter olympics

Bulgaria has applied to host the 2014 winter Olympics. Does anyone know any firm details about this. Some people are saying the skiing will be held at Vitosha others Borovets and others Bansko. Or maybe they havnt decided yet. It wont be Pamporovo coz it is to far from Sofia. Wouldnt it be great if Bulgaria got the Olympics. Very Happy

Yes - because it would mean lots of investment and improved facilities.

No - because every man and his dog would get to hear about the place and want to go there; consequently pushing up prices and making it less affordable like so many other European ski resorts.

Mmmm......don't know what to think really!!

Hi Ive noted your post "When" they join the EU. Chance being a fine thing, this could be years and years away, where an earth did 2007 come from, ?

Take a look at the winter olympics and ask your self if it could be done one day in Bulgaria. Go take a look at Torronto 2006 and some five years away Vancouver and you will see compared to the infrastructure, a sparse poor country of some 11Million folk and I say again, Chance would be a fine thing! Keep smiling :-)

re: Bulgaria and the 2014 winter olympics

Starting this year Bulgaria have plans already in place to put £35 million into Borovets in the hope to host these olympic.
With new large hotels and other facilities it will alter dramatically in the future.

re: Bulgaria and the 2014 winter olympics

Daniel is absolutely correct. Bulgaria are set to join the EU in 2007.

Can't see the Olympic bid taking off though, although I would welcome it.

The facts are...........

Insufficent airport access.
Poor road complex.
Not enough hotels, beds, etc.
Unreliable electricity
Runs not long or testing enough.
Poor viewing.

Much of this could be addressed in the bid was successful, but I fear that a cash rich country will blow the appication away.

Maybe in the future it could ...

Strange then that its actually "Illegal" for legit Financial Advisers to actually state this in their marketing litriture when advising re investing in Bulgaria. Why do you think that would be? Please some one tell me.

re: Bulgaria and the 2014 winter olympics

I would imagine given the strict controls over the finacial insitution that they are not aloud to advertise it because maybe that would encourage more people to jump on the bandwagon? Just a guess but your average Joe might see that as a sign of large profits? Hmmm..... Confused
