Buying Skis / Boots abroad?

Has anyone bought Skis or Boots whilst in Bulgaria to bring back to the UK?

I was thinking about taking the plunge to get my own gear, and seeing as stuff is cheap as chips over there I thought it might be worth it

but then theres bringing it back... customs? paying to get it on the plane etc. etc. being ripped off!?

just wondered if anyone has any experience / advice.

Thanks in advance

Chris

I bought ski boots while I was out there, returned yesterday and carried them on as hand luggage. Customs wasn't a problem. You might have to pay a carriage fee before you fly out to return with skis. Hope this is of some help.

re: Buying Skis / Boots abroad?

Got done by customs years ago bringing new skis & boots in from France and had to pay the duty on everything that I bought over the ridiculously low limit - guess it was the brand new ski & boot bags that did it coupled with bought them on last day and hadn't used them.

Bought new pair abroad last Easter on first day and used them for the entire week - brought them home in an old ski bag - didn't get stopped that time!!!

Someone else told me to post the receipts home rather than carry ...

Going to Borovets for the second year. staying in the edelweiss (much cheapness last minute deal)

Been thinking about getting some skis, but I guess i'll have to pre-book the ski carriage with the tour operator before i go?

can't wait - bring on that snow-fall!
