Buying a ski chalet in Bansko

Morning. I have just started to think about buying an overseas ski chalet inBansko, Bulgaria. The purpose is a mixture of investment, personal use, retirement option, career change, etc.etc. I would be very glad to hear views of skiers/and investors alike who perhaps have already researched the market. I would also be particularly interested to hear from skiers, to get their views on the 63 kilometres of piste, lift systems and ski school etc.
If you could find the time to reply I would be ...

re: Buying a ski chalet in Bansko

I personally wouldnt.

The times of making good money have gone IMO.

As you say Bansko has only 63km of pistes and it isnt getting any larger in the forseeable future. And with all the building going on, it will be some queue for the gondola. Neutral

What makes me wonder with BG ski pads is who is going to rent them? And more importantly who is going to buy them all in the future? Question

I think we have found areas that prove to be a better buy in terms of skiing, enviroment and investment.

However at the end of the day you must like going to where you are going to buy. If it all goes tits up and your chalet is worth £2.50, atleast you will still have a place where you love to go.

Getting the balance of pleasure/investment is crucial.

re: Buying a ski chalet in Bansko

Hi MERV

There are some good deals to be had in Bansko but you have to buy well. The skiing isnt bad. Its by far the best in Bulgaria. Doesnt compete with switzerland been there 5 times but to tell the truth i prefer it to Austria. Its a matter of taste. The 2nd gondala will be going ahead at some stage plus the new ski slopes around near the golf course. There are to many new build apartment in Bansko for my liking so i bought in a village just outside. There are still some places ...

There are to many new build apartment in Bansko for my liking so i bought in a village just outside. There are still some places availible for around the £80,000 depends what you are after. I want the village life with skiing and golf on the doorstep. Personally i rekon buying a villa is better investment potential than an apartment. Its all horses for courses.

re: Buying a ski chalet in Bansko

leave bansko alone, seriously, it is now 'overstocked' they are expecting 800000 visitors this season, and there is no way the lifts will manage.
If you want some value try Borovets, there is a lot more investment going in there now, and the market for properties is in its early days, you can still pick up a bargain. Bansko will suffer the same as sunny beach, too many properties on offer and not enough takers, so prices will be driven down.

re: Buying a ski chalet in Bansko

Personally I wouldn't buy a ski chalet around Bansko
I would buy a 1 bedroom appartment in Bansko near the Gondella.
A good location is everything. Also watch out to be on the town side of the river,[no bridges].
In my opinion Bansko is only in its infancy stage thus development is essential. When the new airport is built
(EU MONEY)Bansko will be transformed.
Watch out for size of appartment in town seem to be bigger
Best of luck

Hi all

Ok so there are some bad points but there are some really good point. Yes the ski slopes may get 800000 people for potential property investment this is good. Bad side is the new gondola has not been built yet although planning permission and the ground to build it on has been established. Oh and yeah its the other side of the river.
Good points are then new ski slopes on the other side of the mountain. The skiing in Bansko is far better than Borrovetts or pamp. Ask the ski ...

Good points are then new ski slopes on the other side of the mountain. The skiing in Bansko is far better than Borrovetts or pamp. Ask the ski instructors!
The new Crossing from Greece to Bulgaria has been open for a couple of months now (Sept). This means within 2 hours you can be at the coast. Short hop over to the islands. You can in the summer Fly into a couple of the greek airports from Manchester (dont know about other area) So less transfer time than from Sofia.
As for buying outside of Bansko(5km). You get the best of both worlds. Unspoilt village with quick access to: slopes, skiing, mountain treking and also the Mehana in old town Bansko.
Yeah as you can tell i am a fan. But as said before you have to buy well Very Happy

re: Buying a ski chalet in Bansko

Bansko/Dobrinishte will have 110km of piste, what do Borovets and Pamps have?

Also, anyone got an update on Super Borovets? Any further movement since the mayor dug that first sod of earth?

Regards

Justin
