Nathan, you have given your honest and personal feelings about your experience and that is what we ask for on this board. Thanks for your frankness. Like many others on here, we all are sad that your holiday was not what you expected, but your posting is isolated compared with the vast amount of comments from people returning all saying they had a fantastic time.

Slopes being 'dangerous' is probably due to lack of snow cover, and that cannot be held against the resort, but more a fact of mother nature.

Bulgaria can never be all things to all people, but you gave it a go, and sadly it's not for you.

Enjoy wherever you go in future, and thanks for spending the time posting.

Yes this will be year 13 for me, and hopefully many more to come in the years ahead. The Pamporovo Hotel is probably the best holtel in the resort and the food is excellent provided you are not expecting T Bone steaks every night!

Bulgaria is a very friendly country, and Bulgarians love to be with the British people. They so much want to become genuine friends with you that they often extend their hospitality by inviting you to their homes. This is their way of expressing genuine friendship and they seek nothing other than that.

Go with an open mind and let the country captivate you as it did me 13 years ago. I truely would go knowhere else to ski, and I have travelled the world quite extensively. Each year it justs gets better!

Even without snow on tuesday wednesday and thursday they managed to use the snow cannons and (if im honest) those days werent bad.

but it snowed about an inch on friday and they didnt bother grooming or using the cannons that night so friday was dangerous on the slopes... ice blocks about 6 inches across ALL over the slopes and sheet ice in the few places there were no blocks..

other resorts manage to get by when there is no snow..... borovets didnt as they are ill equiped to be a resort.

PS - what i meant by "expensive drinking hol" was that the resort was no good for snowboarding so drinking was all you could do instead.... and paying £350 ish for a holiday where all you can do is drink is expensive in my books....

...yes if the snow had been better it would have made up for the poor food and dodgy accommodation..... but it wasnt.

Hi Pete, - Thanks for the comments, and the quick reply, you sound like a member of the Bulgarian Tourist Agency !!

My query re the food, relates to the fact that I suffer from Coeliac Disease, which is an allergy to Gluten, ( wheat/flour ), and have to be careful what I eat. I've no problems with stables like all meats, fish, potatoes, vegetables, rice, maize, etc., provided that it's not covered in breadcrumbs, or in a flour based sauce.

I take my own gluten free bread, biscuits for mountain snacks etc., and hope that I can get a brief translation of my problem, when we arrive at the resort.

Have you flown into, or out of Plovdiv Airport, and if yes, does it have a duty free area ? - Are there shops at Pamporove resort, and if so, selling what ?

We are going with no preconceptions, and enjoy the occasional adventure, so are really looking forward to seeing some of the real Bulgaria.
