wherr are you planning on driving too? I hired a car recently through easyjet (europcar) i had a look again recently and you can pick up a small car for less than £100 for about 5/6 days. so it is pretty cheap. I had shopping to do in Sofia and drove to Bansko. It depends where you are from in terms of driving experience (for me driving on the wrong side of the road). I had shopping to do in Sofia and drove to Bansko. It depends where you are from in terms of driving experience (for me driving on the wrong side of the road). There is not too much snow this year, so the roads are ok (hire cars should have winter tires on). You have to be wary of pot holes and the local 'sebastien vettels' (though you get those in all places). Once out of sofia, the m'way was good, then you need to be careful on the bendy mountain roads where i've seen accidents, as people try overtaking on corners etc. so lots of variables, but if you are sensible and not in a rush (and know where you are goin, roughly), you should be fine
Thanks for the info. Im from the IOW ,we have lots of pot holes lol.
Not sure where we would go , maybe Bansko. I have driven in lot of countries ,but never snowy places .
I will keep a eye on the weather as if not much snow I might hire a car but if we get some by 23 feb then I might give it a miss.
We hire a car when we go and I would say that the Bulgarians deal with snow and ice conditions faster and more effectively than the UK. So on that basis I'd go for it as long as you are a fairly confident driver normally.
A serious word of warning though, as we have found out through a minor accident, there is something about the Bulgarian Tarmac that means that it does not offer the same grip as we are used to in the UK. It may be just old and shiny or a poorer quality. I ...
Hi Martin
We hire a car when we go and I would say that the Bulgarians deal with snow and ice conditions faster and more effectively than the UK. So on that basis I'd go for it as long as you are a fairly confident driver normally.
A serious word of warning though, as we have found out through a minor accident, there is something about the Bulgarian Tarmac that means that it does not offer the same grip as we are used to in the UK. It may be just old and shiny or a poorer quality. I have had cars slide, loose grip and wheel spin where you would not expect. Many of our friends who live in Bulgaria also state you must drive much slower than you would on other roads. As long as you drive on them with that in mind you will be fine.
As for the cost I think the £100 for 6 days quoted above seems pretty good.
